In Support of a Community Visioning Process
WHEREAS, A strong, viable, business environment is integral to the vitality and health of a community; and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent on a City to foster economic growth and development to maintain this environment;
and
WHEREAS, a group of citizens known as the Greater Edmonds Advancement Team convened in 1995 to establish
a strategic plan for the promotion of economic development; and
WHEREAS, the completed plan called for the establishment of a permanent organization that was formed and
became known as the Edmonds Alliance for Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, the plan defined several strategies to be implemented, one of which was a process to create a unified
vision and direction for economic development acceptable to the community; and
WHEREAS, the Alliance sponsored a demonstration meeting on the visioning process attended by more than SO
community members who have since expressed overwhelming support for this concept; and
WHEREAS, the Alliance has requested official support of the Edmonds City Council for this process and assured
the Council that funds and a qualified consultant are available to implement this process.
NOW, THEREFORE,, be it resolved that:
The Council supports the project and each Councilmember will participate in an open and objective
manner throughout the study effort rr��
The Council recognizes that any successful outcome y11% require some changes in the way the City of
Edmonds conducts its business and could result in some modifications to zoning and development
ordinances
The Council recognizes that there will be follow -on costs to implement any recommended action plan.
