AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, TO
INCREASE THE PROPERTY TAX LEVY RATE AND FIXING A
TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds attest that the
population of the City of Edmonds is more than ten thousand; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds had properly given
notice of the public. hearing held November 20, 2001, to consider the City's current
expense budget for the 2002 calendar year, pursuant to RCW 84.55.120; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds, after hearing and
after duly considering all relevant evidence and testimony presented, determined that the
City of Edmonds requires an increase in property tax revenue from the previous year, in
addition to that resulting from the addition of new construction and improvements to
property and any increase in the value of state - assessed property, in order to discharge the
expected expenses and obligations of the City and in its best interest,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. An increase in the regular property tax levy, in addition to any
amount resulting from the addition of new construction and improvements to property
and any increase in the value of state - assessed property, is hereby authorized for the 2002
levy in the amount of $251,276 which is a percentage increase of 3.5 percent from 2001.
Section 2. An increase in the emergency medical services tax levy, in
addition to any amount resulting from the addition of new construction and
improvements to property and any increase in the value of state - assessed property, is
hereby authorized for the 2002 levy in the amount of $53,872, which is a percentage
increase of 3.5 percent from 2001, thereby levying property tax capacity protected by
RCW 84.55.092.
Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance, being an exercise of a power
specifically delegated to the City legislative body, is not subject to referendum, and shall
take effect five (5) days after passage and publication of an approved summary thereof
consisting of the title. It is enacted on a vote of a majority plus one of the City Council.
