Ordinance 34040006.90000 WSS /gjz 6/14/02 R: 6 /17 /02gjz ORDINANCE NO. 3404 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF ECC 2.35.020(A) IN ORDER TO ADD THE HOLIDAY — MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY, AND FIXING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE. WHEREAS, due to negotiated changes in the Collective Bargaining Agreements, a significant percentage of City employees are currently entitled to take Martin Luther King Day as a holiday, and WHEREAS, in the interest of efficiency as well as to recognize the achievement and significance of the Reverend Martin Luther King, the City Council deems it to be in the public interest to enact an ordinance providing for Martin Luther King Day as an official City holiday NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Edmonds City Code Section 2.35.020 Holidays, paragraph A is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.35.020 Holidays. A. Each employee shall be entitled to one day away from service for each of the following holidays: January 1 (New Years' Day) Third Monday of January (Martin Luther King Day) Third Monday of February (President's Day) Last Monday of May (Memorial Day) {WSS519812.D0C;1 /00006.900000/} - 1 - July 4 (Anniversary of Declaration of Independence) First Monday of September (Labor Day) November 11 (Veteran's Day) Fourth Thursday of November (Thanksgiving Day) The Day Immediately Following Thanksgiving Day December 24 and 25 (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance, being an exercise of a power specifi- cally delegated to the City legislative body, is not subject to referendum, and shall take effect five (5) days after passage and publication of an approved summary thereof consisting of the title.
