1950-07-11 City Council Minutest A.motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman McGinness that the Council authorize the payment of $25.45 each for,three transformal rentals per year. Motion carried. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. City Clerk June 20, 1950 Mayor The Council met for the regular session with Mayor McGibbon presiding. The roll call showed the following councilmen present Vollan, Tucker, Maxwell, Engels and McGinness. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The Treasurers report for the month of May was read. Donald Tuson was sworn in by the Mayor, for Councilman of First Ward, and Walter Peterson for Councilman of Third Ward. A claim for damages done to the car of Mrs. E. H. Allen, and 0. KId by Supt. Lawson was read to the council. A motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded by councilman Vollan that this claim be paid. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Tucker that a request be made to transfer the balance of the Sewer Outfall fund to -Police and Fire emergency fund. Motion did not carry. A motion was made by Councilman Maxwell and seconded by Councilman Tuson that the Police Radio be paid for by borrowing from the Current Expense Find. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded y councilman ltMa,,cwell .that we accept the offer from Mrs. Weedin for $200 for her property on'sdcd'nd avenue,North, the City to pay for the title insurance. Motion carried. A motion was made by Councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the Richfield Oil Company be charged with violation of Ordinance No. 579. Motion withdrawn. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Tucker that our property lines at the foot of Bell Street be established and so marked. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman Tucker and sedonded by councilman Engels that the Well contract besigned. Motion carried. Councilman Peterson was appointed on the water committee and councilman -Tuson on the on the street committee. A motion was made b y councilman Tucker and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the Building and Fire :Code be ammended as recommended by the special Code Committbe. Motion carried. The roll call showed the following councilmen present Tucker, Tuson Vollan Maxwell, McGinness and Engels. The Water Collectors report w -as read. A mention was made by Councilmanh2LUdxwel—Is and seconded by councilman Engeltl that the bills which were approved by the auditing com- mittee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the proper funds. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Maxwell that Attorney Holte obtain deeds to the Weedin and Hedges property. Motion carried. A motion was made by -,councilman Maxwell and secinded by councilman McGinness that the P. U. D. be given permission to extend their line on tenth and Sprague Street. Mayor McGibbon referred the Fire code to the Safety committee. 1 1 1 1 A motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded by councilman Maxwell that we have the property which was purchased from Mr. Brown surveyed. Motion did not carry. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the Street Supt. employ someone to mow the streets. Motimn carried. A motion was made by Councilman McGinness ands seconded by councilman Maxwell that Fifth Avenue from Main Street to the South City limits be made a 45 foot street from curb to curb. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman McGinness that the Mayor contact Union Oil Company and the county Commissioners in regards to what they will do toward the completion of Howell way as the bulldoaing has been done. Motioncarried. Councilman Maxwell stated that no one should be given permission to haul gravel from our City streets. Amotion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Tucker that the Engineer establish the grade from Six and Half street to ninth on Pine street at a maximum price of $75. Motion carried.., � Supt. Lawson reported the patching of streets would be started next week. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Engels that the street between Cedar and Hemlock be named Hawthorne Street, a roll call vote showed Tucker no, Tuson*no, Vollan no, McGinness no, Engels yes and Maxwell no. A motion was made by councilman Vollan and seconded by councilman Tucker that the renamaing' of this street be referredto the streetcommittee. Motion carried. Therebeing no further business t e meeting adjourned. Mayor City Clerk July 18, 1950 The Council met for the regular session with Mayor McGibbon presiding. The roll call showed the following councilmen present Vollan, Tucker, Tuson, Maxwell, Peterson McGinness and Engels. The Treasurers report was read: A letter was read from C.. R.. Brower in regards to the naming of Brower Street, which was turned over to the Street committee. A motion was made by councilman Tuckef and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the opening of Fourth Avenue South be referred to the street committee. The Mayor so ordered this done. The request of A. W. Hall for widening the fill on Third Avenue over Shellabarger Creek ,was referred to the street committee by a motion made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman McGinness.. Motion carried. The request of Robert Dority for changes in the boundary of Third Avenue at the bend south � of Main street was referred to the street committee. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Tuson that the City Attorney be instructed to notify the Jannsen Well Drilling Co., thateXie contract has been terminated because they have failed to perform its promise and converts under the said contract and that there is due and owing to the City of Edmonds the VOOO advanced, plus liquated damages to be determined according to the terms of the said contract. In the event the Jannsen Well Drilling Co., fails to return the money advanced, plus the amount of liquated damages within 60 days from the date of this meeting, the City Attorney is instructed to bring suit on the said contract to re-cover same. A roll call vote showed Vollan yes, Tucker no, Tuson yes, Maxwell yes, Peterson yes, McGinness yes and Engels yes. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and se conded by councilman Tuson that the city negiotate with the Yost Estate in regards to the purchase of the 40 acres plus, providing the water supply meets the approval of the State Health Department. A roll call vote showed Vollan yes, Tucker yes>, Tuson yes, Maxwell yes, Peterson yes, McGinness yes and Engler no. The development of the water from Yosts 40 acres and the using of the Main Street resouvior was referredto the water committee. Two proposals were received on -the survey of the sever System, one from Max Meyring at a cost of $2750 and one from Korey and Cramer for,$640. A motion was made by Councilman Maxwell that this be referred to the street and sewer committee -for a report at the next meeting. "dater Supt.
