19550607 City Council MinutesA-motiori,was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by Councilman Tuson that an exception to. the building code be made to'allow Mr. Larsen, to put shingles on the addition to his house, to conform with the rest of the building. Motion carried. The Engineer was asked to check on the feasibility of a 60 foot street from Alder street to Walnut street, at his earliest possible date. Three bids were received for' six inch Cast Iron pipe, one'from United States Pipe and Foundry at'a price of $1.77 per foot, F. 0. B.-Seattle,, with delivery within 30 to 40 days, a bid from Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe, for $1.795 per foot, with delivery within 30 days, and a bid from Pacific Water Works Supply for $1.88 f:o.bQ Edmonds, with 30 days for delivery. A motion was made by councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman Maxwell +hat w e accept the bid from United States Pipe and Foundry. Motion carried. Attorney Holte reported that the Fire Chief "tell and he are not in favor in entering into an agreement with Fire District No. 11 as' we are available if they need us. A motion was made by councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Maxwell that Mayor McGibbon write to the Fire District on this decission. M tion carried. Councilman Tuson made a report to the Council on the repairing of the building and changing of the heating system. Mayor McGibbon named his committee for the next year, Water committee, Tuson Chairman, Talen and'Cloud. Street Committee Maxwell, Chairman, Bishop and Sommerseth. Safety Committee,` Talen, Chairman., -Maxwell and Cloud. Park Committee Kincaid, Sommerseth, and Lawson. ..Auditing Committee, Tuson, Maxwell, and T len. Finance Severson, Mayor McGibbon and Bishop.' A motion was made by c ouncilaman Tuson and seconded by councilman Maxwell that Attorney Holte write a letter of appreciation to Councilman McGinness, who is leaving the office of Councilman at large. The roll call showed the following councilmen present after the new councilmen signed their oath of offices,,Tuson, Talen, Kincaid, Cloud, Maxwell and Sommerseth. The water collectors and Treasurer reports were read to the council. Mr. Usher, Trafton and Mrs. Schneider came before the council in regards to the water that comes in their buildings, when we have a flash rain. This was turned over to the water Committee and Engineer for investigation. Mr. Camandona, operator of the Suburban Septic Tank Service, Came before the Council and asked for permission to use our sewer for emptying their trucks. A motion was made by councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman'Kincaid that the City issue no more permits to dump in our sewers. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Cloud that the street glade as submitted by Engineer Reid for Tenth Avenue between Sprague and Daley street be approved. Motion carried. Councilman Talen voted no. :.Engineer Reid reported that the grading on Pine street has been completed and is ready for the laying of the -water main. Also that the plat of View Manor on Cedar street between Eighth and Ninth avenue is ready for the approval of the Council. City Cle rk 51 Mayor-pro-tem JunC13 1955 The Council met for its regular session with Councilman Maxwell serving as Mayor pro-tem, because of the death of Mayor Paul McGibbon. A motion was made by Councilman Sommerseth and seconded by councilman Talen that the'two'bills for labor at the City park,from Bob Olson for. $25.65 and R.. D. Billington for $13.50, be paid. Motion carried. A letter was'read from Jehovah Witness asking for permission to hang a banner across Fifth street, also a letter was read from Mrs. Wilkes asking for permission to put 'a house trailer on her property. These were held over until our recessed meeting. A motion was made by councilman Talen and seconded by Councilman Tuson that we hold our recessed meeting Thursday June 30. Motion carried. June 30, 1955 The Council met for its recessed meeting with Gordon Maxwell acting as Mayor pro-tem, and the following councilmen present Tuson, Talen, Kincaid, Cloud2fflshop and Sommerseth. Because of a vacancy of the office of Mayor a motion was made by councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman Cloud that Gordan Maxwell be elected Mayor until our next :_City Election. Motion carried. Arlie Siefert a member of the Lions Club came before the council asking for permission to hold a carnival at the High School Playfield July 6, 7, and 8. A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Tuson that the Lions Club be given permission to sponsor the Carnival.
