19601115 City Council MinutesQJ �l November 15, 1960 Regular meeting was called to order by Mayor Maxwell with all councilman present. Motion was made by Councilman Christensen, 'seconded by Councilman Slye that the City accept the additional right-of-way as outlined by the City Attorney necessary for the completion of LID #103. Motion carried. Formal presentLItion of the City Code was made by Mr. Frayne of the Book Publishing Co. Motion was made by Councilmen Christensen, seconded by Councilman Sorenson that the City Code be referred to the Organization Committee, and a report will be made on it at the next meeting. Motion carried. After recommendation from the City Enginner, a motion was made by Councilman Sorenson, see- oned by Councilman Simpson, that award of bid on LID #103, Paving and Curbs on 17th Pl., (Lynn Road) be made to Johnson Engineering and Construction Company gt a cost of $9,760.75 and the Mayor be authorized to enter into contract with them. Motion carried. A motion was made Councilman Simpson, seconded by Councilman Christensen that the hearing on the Final Assessment Roll on LID #102, Widening pavement and Curbs en Pine from llth E to W, Plat of Pine Terrace, be held on December 20, 1960 at 8 PM. Motion carried. Motion was made by Councilman Tuson, seconded by Councilman Lambe to authorize a call for bids on LID #104, Sewers on Grandview and vicinity. Bids to be opened on December 6, 1960 &t 8 PM. Motion carried. Mr. Meeks ask the'Council for permission to move his house on a lot on the North side of Walnut between 5th and 6th which is commercial zoning. Mayor Maxwell appointed a Board of Appeals, as provided under the Building Code. Members were: Chairman - Don Tuson, Don Lawson, Wm. Lambe, Harve Harrison and Jim Astell. Motion was made by Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Slye, confirming the appointment of the Board of Appeals. Motion carried. After Council recess, the Board of Appeals made its report through Mr. Tuson, Chairman. Motion was made by Councilman Tuson, seconded by Councilman Harrison that Mr. Meeks due to a hard- ship situation, be allowed to move his home on lots 37 and 38, block 23, City of Edmonds, and that he wlzl be held to the requirements of a k-6 residential zoning with the provision that no further extension could be made to said building, or no other buildings be allowed on such premises without complying with the building requirements specified under fire zone #1 in such Commercial Districts. Motion carried. A letter was received from the Army Engineers regarding a public hearing on small boat harbors to be held on Dec. 9th at 1:30 PM at the National Bank of Commerce Building. A letter was read from the State Highway Commission regarding the studying of comparative costs of using only the west side of Edm :nds Way, and using both sides of the street to widen it for a truck passing lane. A motion was made by Councilman Slye, seconded by Councilman Lambe that Ord. #855 be adopted as corrected, setting the salaries for the City Employees for the year 1961. Motion carried. A Motion was made by Councilman Sorenson, seco ed by Councilman Simpson that the alley grade as set by the City Engineer east of 6th and �th of Fir to the City Playfield be approved. Motion carried. Motion was made by Councilman Sorenson, seconded by Councilman Lambe to accept the final Plat of Nelson Addition and the Mayor be authorized to sign it. Motion carried. Motion was made by Councilman Tuson, seconded by Councilman Christensen that the Chamber of Commerce be authorized to proceed with the beautification program by placing four planters in the downtown area. Motion carried. There was.a discussion relative to the sale of the former Methodist Church. The City Attorney was directed to advise the purchasers, The Christian Church Corp., th4t any improvements made on this building must be in compliance with the Building Code.
