I am requesting a revision to the original single family drainage system located on my
single family lot located at 10316 238th St. SW. Currently, an open retention area built by the
original builder of the residence is used for storm water retention at our residence. The existing
system is visually unappealing and a potential hazard in its current state and location.
It is proposed to enlarge the basin (as necessary to meet the required volume), fill it with
3/4" to 1- 1/2" washed rock, and cover the system with a layer of topsoil and sod. The existing
impervious surface on the site is less than 2,500 sf. Applying the City's standard drainage
system design, a volume of 62 cf is required. Using the 3/4" to 1-1/2" washed rock with and
average void ratio of 35% the required volume for an underground storage basin is 178 cf. (62 cf
/35%). Attached is a schematic drawing showing the details of the proposed revisions.
Our neighbors, the McDonalds, who live in a home built by the same builder (23727
104th Ave. SW) as our home, and who had the exact retention pond have successfully applied to
you for this exact revision to their drainage. We propose to follow their plan exactly, since it met
with your approval.

RE: Alteration to Existing Storm Detention System
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Spangler:

Enclosed please find a copy of the approved storm drainage plans from when your house
was constructed, and a copy of our storm detention handout. As I explained to
Mrs. Spangler on the phone today, if you wish to fill in the storm detention pond in your
yard, it will be necessary to install a storm detention structure to replace the detention
volume that is lost. Typically this is accomplished by installing length of buried storm
pipe.
To complete this work you will need to obtain a revision to the previous approved
building permit. It will be necessary for you to submit revised plans showing the existing
system and the proposed work, including the dimensions of the new system, and
elevations for the new system and the existing system to which you will be connecting. It
is not necessary to have an engineer complete this work for you; you can design the
system yourself using our handout, as long as you provide all the necessary information.
As the worksheet on the back of the storm detention handout shows, you will need to
provide a total of 62 cubic feet of storm detention volume for your system.
