The trees are all between 65' to 75' tall and their individual dbh is listed below. The followings are my findings. 1. Pseudostuga menziesii The:tree is:18";dbh (diameter,,at breast:height). 2. It has double trunks which is only 3"dbh. 25. Thuja plicata The tree is 12" dbh (diameter at breast height). 26. Thuja plicata The tree is 14" dbh (diameter at breast height). 27. Thuja plicata The tree is 14" dbh (diameter at breast height). 28. Thuja plicata The tree is 14" dbh (diameter at breast height). The above listed trees are in good condition and healthy looking. It is rather rare in our urban environments to find such a good looking grove of trees. I recommend that the area will remain undisturbed. I also recommend the removal of any garbage and stored items near the trees on the neighboring property. The trees are healthy because the area was unchanged after they were planted and because an all -year -around creek is right below them supplying them with adequate water even during drought periods. The trees were swinging in the recent windstorms as witnessed by the homeowner and the type of swinging she witnessed is a proof of healthy, flexible wood present with no or minimal decay. The trees are very valuable, representing thousands of dollars in added property value, however their most important functions are the facts that they provide habitat for the area wildlife by creating a small urban forest, and that they use so many thousands of gallons of water during any given day all year around. Without these trees the area would be a swamp and near -by basements would have standing water in them often due to the high water table and the creek so close. Because of the habitat, the better air quality, and drainage solution the trees provide, the city of Edmonds has laws and regulations that protect such groves of trees. I recommend monitoring the trees about every two years because they are close to homes and recent changes in weather patterns can stress trees. If any constructions or site disturbance is attempted in the 35' vicinity of the trees, a certified aborist should create a preservation plan and ensure its implementation. This report is based largely on readily observable conditions. Trees can fail with no predictable cause as they are part of nature. There are several factors affecting a tree's health that are pre-existing and cannot necessarily be ascertained with surface analysis. These conditions include root damage which may be hidden beneath the soil. In addition, certain circumstances can cause rapid deterioration of a tree's condition. While I have used every reasonable means to examine the trees, this report is an opinion and I cannot guarantee or warrant the condition of these trees. Given the facts in combination with the fact that external factors such as weather events (i.e. drought and windstorms) contribute to the failure of a tree, it is impossible to determine the eventual failure of any given tree. Please give me a call if you have any questions. Thank you. He obtained a Business License in 1966 (BOO92) and to date has kept it current. No records were found that a variance has been obtained for a sign at the above referenced property. However, I have contacted the City Clerk's office to obtain a copy of the Conditional Use Permit ordinance that was in effect in. 1966 which may have allowed signs for Home Occupations. I have also requested the archived file (CU-66-219) to review it and see if a sign was allowed as a condition of the permit approval. I will let you know if further information is found. (CW) Mr. Wallis presented slides of the site and reviewed the application. Bill Karr, Boat Loft, Inc. was in the audience. He explained to the Board that this was a monorail laun deer with a marine fork lift to bring the boats from the loft across the street for launching. Mr. Goldsmith asked Mr. Karr if the Port of Edmonds intends to acquire the property and he said he did not know. Paul Roy, 844 Alder Street said this was greatly needed in the summer. People start lining up at 3 A.M. in order to use the one launcher that is there at the Port of Edmonds. A MOTION WAS MADE BY 11R. WESTLIN, SECONDED BY MR. Binding, Distribut on and storage of pertinent materials used in the publishing of pr nted matter. 130 2nd Ave. Immediately north of existing building formerly Crow Hardware. (BC) Mr. Wallis showed slides of the site and said this was a preliminary review asked for by Harbor Construction. Bruce Beard, Harbor Construction was in the audience, representing Alaska Publish- ing. He explained that this was a temporary structure which would be a steel structure. It would have trim of sandstone material the same as the existing build- ing. Landscaping and walkways would be installed. Mr. Beard said they do not have landscape plans at present but would prepare them. He said this is a problem area as the water table is high. All structural work must be done on pilings. The building primarily will be used for assembling, binding and shipping of printed materials. Paul Cook said if the applicant wants a metal building then they should attempt to screen it as much as possible. Mr. Beard said they asked for the preliminary hearing in order to get as much input from the Board as possible for guidance as to what they wanted and would accept. Mr. Wallis said a traffic count had shown approx, mately 600,000 cars a year use Sunset Way. He suggested that the building location be changed and a berm in- stalled. This would soften the impact of the building. - Ile No._ te: CITY OF E DMON DS PLANNING DEPARTMENT CIVIC CENTER.
