Mr. Whitcutt presented a memorandum from the rim Department approving
use of the alternate, Exhibit Ii.
There was a discussion of the letter which was mailed to the Board
illembers. Mr. Albers made,a motion that the alternate, as outlined in
Exhibit B which was mailed with the letter, be approved provided the
applicant be instructed to use noncombustible studs. Mr. Whiteley
seconded the motion. On a call for a vote the motion carried unanimously.
The Building Official then made the following comments on fire zoning:
I would like to make a brief statement concerning the last meeting of. the
Board in the matter of the fire zoning study and its present status.
is The , Building and Fire Doper tments made presentations to the Council on
September 5, 1972, together with recommendations. The Building Department
has recommended that Fire Zone I be eliminated. The Council has tabled the
fire zone report until a decision is received from the Planning Commission
'in regardto ravision or removing off-FLrect parking regulations in the
downtown business district. Thi!.; will probably be no earlier than February

Mr. Paul Roy entered into the conversation and added his comments regarding
additional costs involved in building in Fire Zone I. Ile stated that
because of the stringent requirements in Fire Zone I asthetic beauty is
lost when #iraling costs are added to strict fire zone construction,

In response to a queution from Mr. Roy, Mr. Albers did a run down of fire
rates for residences in which lie made it clear that the comparative rates
do not relate to the location relative to fire zones.
There was a discussion of the fire protection requirements for the Sail
In Tavern..
Mr. McConnachie stated that al.1 of the discussions proved that the Board
needs to uLudy the fire zoning in Edmond., morn extensively.
