Advanced Wireless Alarm Monitoring
The 7744F/7788F smart subscriber unit links an alarm panel to
an alarm monitoring central station. This confirmed message
delivery transceiver and repeater is housed in a full size locking
steel cabinet for superior performance. The 7744F/7788F sup-
ports a wide range of inputs such as NO/NC/EOL and direct volt-
age. It automatically senses wire and antenna cuts, and monitors
battery and AC power status. Advanced status reporting, self -diag-
nostics and a built-in power supply make the 7744F/7788F the
first choice for all wireless alarm communication needs.
Use with the optional Firetap for full fire data or the IntelliTap for
full fire and burglary data.

Dear Ms. Dunatov:
Mr. Sprake had contacted me regarding establishment of a set of fire alarm procedures.
This from owner concerns regarding an earlier false alarm.
I have viewed the flyer provided for "In case of fire". That is good information and should
be available to each condominium owner.
I have reviewed the fire alarm incident report of 7/6/95 at 4:36 p.m. A fire engine had been
dispatched to that alarm. An emergency aid crew arrived directly in response to a medical
alarm three minutes prior to your same location. The aid crew officer confirmed upon
arrival that there was a false alarm and that the fire alarm system had reset. He then
canceled the incoming fire engine.
In speaking with Mr. Steve Lenz from Northwest Fire & Security Systems, their response
procedure begins with fire department notification when a fire alarm is detected. This is the
appropriate first step. Additional verbal verification is not a necessity for fire department
dispatch.
I have asked Northwest if they would be able to show a resident(s) how the alarm panel
and alarm system operates. They said they could provide a technician to come speak with
residents. I would encourage association members to take advantage of an opportunity to
understand the fire alarm system, its operation and its limitations. I would also encourage
(at least) one resident member to offer themselves as a point of contact for the fire alarm
company, to assist in providing access to all alarm devices, annually for testing.

following report is made:
Previous consultation with Northwest Fire and
Security resulted in the following recommendations:

each unit above entrance doors.
That a new control panel be installed with 12 volt
batteries replacing present 6 volt type in'the back-
up system. (This to bring system up to Code require-
ments.
That smoke and heat detectors might have to be re-
placed with a. type compatible with the.12 volt system.
A further consultation 'was scheduled for November 8
but did not take place due to non-appearanceof the
contracter. It had been anticipated that a. final con-
tract would be made at that time.
It is also planned to'repl,a.ce*the monitoring system
.now contracted with Washington Burglar Alarm with one
operated by Northwest Fire and Security at the time of
the new Installation.

On May 20, 1982 the Edmonds Fire Department conducted a test
of the fire alarm system at the Shamrock Plaza Condominium. The
test sampling was to determine if the sounding devices (bells)
met current audibility requirements. The minimum requirements
are 60 decibel or 15 decibels above ambient sound levels which
are greater than 45 decibels.
The decibel level recorded from the bedroom of Unit #101
was 54 decibels. From Unit #102, the level recorded was less
than 40 decibels.
The audibility of the system will have to be improved, in-
suring that the audibility from each unit is in compliance with
the current city requirement. The Fire Department recommends
that you contact a licensed alarm installer to determine the.
best way to comply.

The following Information Is furnished to occu-
pants of the Shamrock Plaza as a guide to actions to
be taken in possible emergencies affecting this
building. This should be studied and retained in
Your policy folder.
FIFlES
Detea ion Systems. Each unit is equipped with a
Photoelectric smoke detector which will sound an alarm
only in your unit whenever the light beam is interrupted
by smoke. It is powered by house current so will not
function in ,the event of a power outage. The slightest
smoke (from cooking or fireplaces) may activate this
alarm so first determine whether a. fire exists. If so,
evacuate your unit and pull the manual alarm located
by each ground floor..exit. This.wi.11 alert the entire
building.
Note: If you hear/ continous beeping sound,your
'detector lamp has probably burned out. Turn off the power
to that area with --the appropriate switch on your panel.
Remove the bottom of the detector and replace the lamp

Common areas are protected by a system mf smoke and
heat detectors located throughout the building in ha.11-
ways, garages, storage rooms, etc. Any unusal heat or
smoke will activate a signa.l.tra.nsmitter which,is monitored
24 hours a day by Washington Burglar Alarm Co, A direct
line connects them.with the Edmonds Fire Dept. which is
notified on receipt of a signal. The system will also
sound the alarm bells located on each floor. In this case

Alarms. There are two a.larmf. bells located on each floor.
These may be sounded either by the detection system or by the
manual pull stations located by each outside exit. i,
Note: Disregard the alarm if it sounds only momentarily
as this will be a test. , j
Extinguishers. Two firer.ex.t.inguishers are -.located on
each floor. These may be used on small fires -prior to p
the arrival of the Fire Department.
Evacuation.Upon hearing the continuous ringing of the
alarm bells, all occupants should evacuate the building
as rapidly as possible with clothing suitable to the weather,

using the nearest stairway to the outside exits. Do
not use the elevator for evacuation. It should be left
available for firemen and also in anticipation of a
possible power failure. Occupants should assemble in the
east (back) parking areato await information from the
Fire! -,Department and to keep clear of equipment. If you
cannot use the stairways, go out on your deck. Firemen
n reach you there. However, you should seriously con-
sider obtaining a fire escape chain ladder to keep

Power outages will continue to occur in

We have reviewed your emergency procedures outline and would
like to compliment you on your efforts. However, we are suggesting
a few modifications:
1. Police, Fire, and Medical Emergencies. This should
e the first item covered, and we suggest this
calling procedure: In the event of a police, fire,
or medical emergency, dial 911. Give the dispatcher
a brief description of the nature of the emergency.
Then give your name, address, and a call-back number,
and stay on the line to give any additional inform-
ation or answer any questions the dispatcher may
need. Provide access to the building for the re-
sponding agency, along with assistance upon their
arrival.
2. Fire Extinguishers. Please give this information:
In t - event of a fire, notification of the Fire
Department and evacuation should be completed prior
to attempting to extinguish the fire. If the
proper alarm is being transmitted by someone else,
and you can safely attack the fire, do so. Always
maintain a safe exit path in case the fire -gets out
of hand. Do not place yourself in jeopardy.
3. Power Outages. Since many fires are started by the
misuse of candles, we feel that mention of candles
should be deleted. Also, canned heat and camp stoves
should not be listed because of the potential for
fires and respiratory problems from improperly
vented appliances.

In reviewing the plans and the file on 11/4/77, we advised
that you were to provide a local alarm system to meet N.F.P.A.
72-A standards:
In my review of the file, there shall be smoke detectors
located in the corridors on each floor level, intertied with
a pullbox alarm on each level near the stairways. There
shall be heat detectors located in each of the individual
garages and storage areas, all intertied to a central alarm,
and a zone indicator box shall be located in the lobby.
A complete set of drawings shall be presented to the Fire
Marshal's office for approval prior to installation.,
