Dear Mr. Sibrel: The undersigned engineer has visited the subject site and reviewed the referenced documents and test results. The purpose of our work was to assess whether the "Infiltrator" drainage system was appropriate for use at this site. The field tests conducted by Mr. Mattson indicated an infiltration rate of about 2 to 10 minutes per inch, with the more permeable soils being downhill (west) of the existing structure, where the infiltration system is proposed to be located. It is our opinion that the "Infiltrator" drainage system is appropriate for use on this site. We do recommend that water flowing into the "Infiltrator" be channeled to the ground via piping or large rock be placed immediately under the orifice to disperse P.O. Documented research has clearly dem- onstrated that the INFILTRATOR® chamber provides an optimum infiltrative surface for leaching systems. Many states have already recognized this and granted system size re- ductions accordingly. The graph shows that INFILTRATOR cham- bers have twice the effective infiltrative surface area per linear foot. This is based on a 36" wide trench with 6" of gravel below the pipe assuming 50% gravel masking, com- pared to Standard and High Capacity INFILTRATOR chambers with 50% masking for INFILTRATOR sidewall, and no bottom masking. 1. Excavate 3' wide trenches and prepare infiltrative surface. 2. Screw the end plates in place and slip INFILTRATOR® units together to form desired trench length. 3. Run inlet pipe thru inlet end plate (pipe does not extend the entire length of the system), and backfill with native material (18" depth for H-20 and 12" for H-10). (Detailed instructions available.) INFILTRATOR a CHAMBERS ARE GREAT FOR MOUNDS AND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION TOO! MOUNDS INFILTRATORS ®can easily replace the gravel in mound or fill systems, in either a trench or bed configuration. After reviewing the request, we understand that the elevation of the garage slab was established to be as high as possible given the topographic restraints and building height limits. It would not be feasible to raise the grade of the garage slab and/or reconstruct the existing road and surrounding properties to keep the driveway slope under 14%. Therefore, based on the above detennination, the city approves your request for a driveway slope waiver up to 19% within approximately the first 20' of the new driveway, not to exceed 20%. After approximately the first 20' of the new driveway the slope shall remain 14% or less. Sincerely, io&; Robert S English, P.E. Our intention is to use this space for garden/tool storage, holiday storage and bikes etc. If these plan change, we understand that we cannot put in a driveway unless: a) an easement is granted from the owners of the adjacent private road, *and* b) a drainage plan, designed for both the current project and the new driveway is approved by the City.
