The control panel shall be listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for use per NFPA Standards 72A, 72B and 72C. The control panel shall be con- structed within a surface steel cabinet with a hinged and locked door, finished in red enamel. Operation of any signal initiating device shall cause the circuit alarm lamp to light, the audible and/or visual alarm devices to indicate and the reverse polarity transmitter to be operated. The control panel shall lock into alarm and be reset only after the initiating devices causing the alarm have been restored to normal and panel reset switch operated. A trouble condition shall also be indicated. The internal power supply shall operate entire system and maintain emergency batteries in fully charged condition. Occurrence of a commercial power failure shall cause system to automatically operate from the emergency batteries and shall be capable of operating in a non -alarm status for a minimum of: 24 hours (NFPA-72A), 60 hours (NFPA-72B or 72C). Hotels either three stories or more in height or containing 20 or more guest rooms. The alarm system shall include provisions for smoke detection and manual operation in interior corridors and automatic detection in storage rooms, laundry rooms, furnace rooms and similar common areas. (b) Connection to Other Systems. A signal system or intercommunicating system shall not be used for any purpose other than fire warning unless it meets the requirements of this article. (c) Standard for Installation, Inspection and Maintenance. Installation, inspection and maintenance of the fire alarm system shall be according to the standards set forth in U.F.C. Standard No. 10-2. (d) Location of Stations. Stations for operating any manually operated fire alarm system shall be placed immediately adjacent to the telephone switchboard in the building, if there is a switchboard, and at such other locations as may be required by the chief. (e) Automatic telephone dialing devices to transmit an emergency alarm shall not be connected to any fire department telephone number unless approved by the chief. WHEN (DATE; TIME) : 0129hrs , 01-07-85 WHY (REASON FOR EVENT) : Edmonds and Snohomish County Fire Protection District #1 responded to a structure fire at.the above listed address.Upon arrival fire was showing from windows on the first and second floor. The fire was blacked out at 0145hrs then overhall was started wich took about three hours. WHO ( PERSON (S) INVOLVED: two Chiefs , and twenty five fire fighters ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION OF INTEREST: CAUSE:has been determined to be accidental. Rolls of carpet thath-a2±b.eremoved during a remodel were stored in the basement against two baseboard heaters ,the heat from the direct contact caused the carpet to ignite.Fire damage was extensive to the first floor and smoke and heat damage was severe to the second floor. Jack D Weinz.Fire Chief Edmonds fire department PHONE: 775-2525 ex.237 FIELD INVESTIGATION REPORT Location:204-6th ave N.,Roman Catholic Church -Corpus Christi Chapel SNOCOM NO:0138 INCIDENT NO: On Jan 8,1985 I responded to a reported structure fire at the above address. Upon arrival Edmonds and Co. fire crews were in the process of extinguishing spot -fires and beginning overhaul operations.The outside of the structure indicated that the most intense portion of fire was located near the SE corner of the basement and extended up the outside along 2x2 boards attached to the siding.After the fire was extinguished and ventilated the investigation began inside the building.It was obvious that the fire began in the basement because of the amount of damage and the "V" pattern.Further examination of the burn patterns indicated that the point of origin was near the SW corner of the common area of the basement.In that area against the wall was several rolls of carpet.While examining the wall in that area I noticed two electric baseboard heaters that were covered by the rolls of carpet.Upon removing the carpet it was noticed that the carpet adjacent to the heaters had received the most severe damage.Inspection of the thermostat indicated that it had 'been left in the on position,but do to the damage I could not determine to what level it was turned to.The electrical panel also indicated that the breakers for the heater circuit were in the tripped position. CONCLUSION:The fire was caused by rolls of carpet placed on electric heaters,and the heaters were left in the on position.the subsequent heat raised the temperature to it's ignition temperature causing the fire.
