The policy states that the customer will be billed at the retail rate based upon the average water consumption for the same period during the previous year. In addition, the excess water lost from the leak will be billed to customer at the City's wholesale rate with a 15% surcharge added for administrative cost. I asked my wife if she noticed anything like standing water or a loss of water pressure and she did not so we did not act. About a month later we did notice a puddle on our front walkway that was not completely out of the ordinary given the amount of rainfall at the time but it did remain when the rain stopped. Finally, it dawned on us that this must be the leak that had been brought to our attention earlier. We contacted American Leak Detection and they identified the location of the leak (invoice enclosed). I then, with the help of a friend, dug down to the pipe, removed the leaking section and repaired the pipe with a $2.69 splice from Home Depot. The problem appears to be fixed. We spent $285 locating the leak and we used approximately $200 more water than we normally would have because of the leak. If there is anything you can do in terms of crediting our water account to help us offset these costs I would certainly appreciate it.
