15920 72ND AVE W.PDFIIIIIIIIIIII 5592 15920 72ND AVE W Ave. W STREET FILE Memo To: Hiatt, Chuck From: Timbrook, Dave CC: Lindsay, Rich Date: October 7, 2010 Re: Maple on 72nd W. & North Meadowdale Beach Road This narrative is a follow-up to the "Hazard Tree Evaluation Form" for the tree in the lot at 72"d Avenue West and North Meadowdale Beach Road. The tree is located in the Right -Of -Way N.M.B.R. along approximately 30 feet west of 72"d Ave. W. and is a Bigleaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) approximately 75 feet tall with a canopy spread of about 55 feet. There are 2 main trunks to this tree. One trunk is 21" and the other is 20". The health of the tree is good with normal leaf color and growth. New twig growth is also normal and there is a minimal amount of dead branches or twigs. The main concern with this tree is the loss of a major scaffolding branch off the 20" trunk. The branch failed 15' above the base and this failure split the trunk. When the failure occurred it removed Y2 of the diameter of the trunk for 5 feet before snapping off. The next 5 feet down has split through the entire diameter if the trunk. The loss of this branch has put more weight on the branches of the tree that hang over the street putting more stress on the second trunk. To reduce the possibility of the failure of this 20" trunk removal of the branches over the roadway is recommended. This reduction of weight should reduce the possibility of failure in the future.
