Re: Falk residence located at 17308 73 d Avenue W
The pump was sized for an impervious area of 3,500 sq ft, and at a minimum, an
% inch orifice with 2.14 feet of head.
Capacities of a 3 feet deep wet well minus the 9 inch clearance from the bottom
is shown below:
Type 2, 48" CBMH — 211 gallons
After some consideration, I feel the Type 2 CBMH with a capacity of_"I allons
will provide the best service for the people that have to operate it.. The pump
chosen for this application is a Hydromatic SW 25 with a % HP 'motor. The pump
curve is at the end of this report.
The accompanying diagram shows the Type 2 -, CBMH wet well with a depth of
wet well at 3 feet below the incoming 6 inch PVC. The pump, for a longer service
life should be place securely on a blocking 9 inches minimum above the bottom
of the wet well. This will allow for settlement of particulates. The wet well should
be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis. The intake to this pump could be
blocked with leaves, therefore it is recommended take a screen cage with.Y2inch
maximum openings be built to surround the pump/motor unit.

17308 - 73RD AVE W
CITY OF EDMONDS
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WASHINGTON
Existing Conditions
The project site is a residential lot which is partially wooded land that slopes westerly to
discharge surface flow near the center of the west boundary which is adjacent to a stand of
evergreen trees. There is a Storm system in 73rd Ave W which is too high for the surface
drainage from the subject lot to enter by gravity flow. A single family residence is located on the
lot to the west which is downslope of the subject lot, however, surface drainage is south of that
structure.
Methodology
Santa Barbara Urban Hydrographs were developed utilizing the Soils Conservation Service Type
[A rainfall distribution to model runoff from the impervious area contributing runoff to the
detention facility using"Watershed Modeling, Version 7.OS", by Eagle Point, Dubuque, Iowa.
Size (volume) of the detention facility was determined by routing the various hydrographs
through the detention facility to provide storage volume requirements during various rates of
flow.
Storm Detention
Hydrologic analysis of the developed impervious area (2,791 SF).indicates that stormwater
retention/detention can be accomplished with 60 feet of 24" diameter detention pipe. Due to the
topography of the site it will be necessary to split the detention into two separate systems that
discharge into a common spreader trench. It is proposed that stormwater runoff fromthe
impervious surface areas be controlled by directing runoff to the detention facilities located on

the north and south sides of the house. Outfall vAll be regulated frorn each system to the
spreader trench.
The trench has been designed to accomodate the controlled discharge from impervious areas for
the 100 year storm event. The bottom area of the spreader trench was determined utilizing the
existing infiltration rate and sizing for the 100 year storm event controlled discharge.

Rate of infiltration has been determined to be 3.23 minutes per inch or 0.00043 ds/SF. The
bottom area of trench is calculated to be 164 square feet based on the 100 year storm event.

Sheet Flow
Sheet flow is flow over plane surfaces. It usually occurs in the headwater of streams. With sheet
flow, the friction value (ns) (a modified Manning's effective roughness coefficient that includes
the effect of raindrop impact; drag over the plane surface; obstacles such as lifter, crop ridges,
and rocks; and erosion and transportation of sediment) is used. These ns values are for very
shallow flow depths of about 0.1 foot and are only used for travel lengths up to 300 feet. Table
3.5.2.0 gives Manning's ns values for sheet flow for various surface conditions.
For sheet flow up to 300 feet, use Manning's kinematic solution to directly compute Tt:
Sheet flow: Tt = [0.42 (nsL)0.8j/[(P2)0.5(S,,)0.41
where
Tt = travel time (min),
n. = sheet flow Manning's effective roughness coefficient (from Table 3.5-2C),
L = flow length (ft),
P2 = 2-year, 24-hour rainfall (in), (see Figure 3.5.1C), and
SO = slope of hydraulic grade line (land slope, ft/ft)
Velocity Equation
A commonly used method of computing average velocity of flow, once it has measurable depth,
is the following equation:
V = k(SO)0.5
where:
V = velocity (ft/s)
k = time of concentration velocity factor (ft/s)
so = slope of flow path (ft/ft)
"k" is computed for various land covers and channel characteristics with assumptions made for
hydraulic radius using the following rearrangement of Manning's equation:
k = (1.49 (R) 0-667 )/n;
where
R = an assumed hydraulic radius
n = Manning's roughness coefficient for open channel flow (from Table 4.3.713 in
Chapter 4)

DRAINAGE OVERVIEW
ERIC FALK RESIDENCE
IA rainfall distribution to model runoff from the impervious area contributing runoff to the
detention facility using 'Watershed Modeling, Version 7.OSu, by Eagle Point, Dubuque, Iowa.
Size (volume) of the detention facility was determined by routing the various hydrographs
through the detention facility to provide storage volume requirements during various rates of
flow.
Storm Detention
Hydrologic analysis of the developed impervious area (2,791 SF) indicates that stormwater
retention/detention can be accomplished with 60 feet of 24" diameter detention pipe. Due to the
topography of the site it will be necessary to split the detention into two separate systems that
discharge into a common spreader trench. It is proposed that stormwater runoff fromthe
impervious surface areas be controlled by directing runoff to the detention facilities located on

the north and south sides of the house. Ouffall %vill be regulated from each system to the
spreader trench.
The trench has been designed to accomodate the controlled discharge from impervious areas for
the 100 year storm event. The bottom area of the spreader trench was determined utilizing the
existing infiltration rate and sizing for the 100 year storm event controlled discharge.
Tabulation of Flows
Design < ------------- FLOW ---------------- >
Storm Existing Developed Routing
2 0.01 0.03 2 x 0.01 = 0.02
10 0.02 0.06 2 x 0.02 = 0.04
100 0.07 0.12 2 x 0.03 = 0.06
Rate of infiltration has been determined to be 3.23 minutes per inch or 0.00043 ds/SF. The
bottom area of trench is calculated to be 164 square feet based on the 100 year storm event.
