NOTE No. 5—Trenches in street must be water settled and surface of street restored to original condition. Contractors shall be responsible for fallure due to improper
work which may develop within one year of completion.

We are Joanne Do and Minh-Phuong Nguyen, residing at the above. address. We are writing you this letter to ask
for your consideration and assistance in taking care of the matter at . han . d'as 'described"be'low:
Last year around June, we wrote a letter to the then Mayor to ask her to assign someone to come out to take a look
at the corner off our properly (private road/Meadowdale Beach Road) where the water stays for a long period of
time after a rain. We did include some pictures showing the matter; It lousis an environmental and health hazard
since the water has no place to go except to our land when overflowing. And in fact, it is now getting worse.
The then Mayor did respond and Mr. Don Fiene, a city engineer, came out to look. 1, Minh-Phuong, met with him
and discussed about it. At that time, Mr. Fiene said he could make an underground pathway to the public storm
drainage system down the road but it had to be around November (1999) since the city had lots of projects to take
care of. We waited and waited and nothing happened. Then in late last year or early this year we got a letter from
the Mayor office indicating that the area of concern did not belong to the city.property. That is, we had to take care
of it. It is very time wasting and heart breaking!
There are two reasons why we feel as such. One is that when the area was developed, our guess was around
1970, it must have been approved by the city in building houses, landscape, roadways, drainage and. so on to
comply with the city's planning. The other is that should the area of concern be up to us (we mean the three
houses up the hill, behind our property, using the private road rather than we) to take care, then the city should
have provided some suitable options —so that the residents and the city could cooperatively work together —
because it would somehow involve public system in part.
Time goes by as we are occupied with our own lives. It then came to our attention again as there was a big rain on
the weekend of 8/20. The water "pond" got bigger and its water flooded in our front yard washing away the newly
put bark across and dumping it on the other side of our driveway.
Dear Mayor Haakenson,
We would like your consideration and assistance in solving this long overdue matter. As we are informed of the
City Street Overlay Program to be happening in our area between 9/11 and 10/6, would it.be convenient for the city
to help in this matter?
