Subject: Harbor Square T/I, High Rack Storage Plan Check #99-148
The Fire Department needs the following information:
1) The location and classification of all commodities to be stored
2) Will customers be allowed in the high rack storage area?
3) Ceiling height and commodity clearance from top of rack to ceiling.
Other requirements:
4) An approved and monitored automatic fire detection system shall be
installed throughout the high -rack storage area UFC 8102.5
5) All walls and openings shall have a one -hour fire protection rating.

6) A minimum of two 2A: 1013:C portable fire extinguishers to be on site
with locations to be called out prior to final.

operate. Included in the permit
requirement are specific details that must be
submitted with the plans. Article 8101.3.2

Any additional information regarding the
required design features, commodities,
storage arrangement and fire protection
features within the high -piled storage area
as the chief may require.
Evacuation Plans
Where storage areas are accessible to the
public, such as in major retail outlet stores,
the fire chief is authorized to require an
evacuation plan for the premises.
Article 8101.3 requires the plans indicate
the location and width of aisles, exits and
exit signs, storage heights and locations of
hazardous materials.
Once approved, the evacuation plan must
remain on the premises.
Commodity Classifications
The basis for proper application of all � ,
codes and fire protection standards dealing
with high -piled combustible storage is the
commodity classification.
