SUBJECT: RESURFACING ('OF ANDOVER ROAD -
Thank you for your letter to Mr. Blandin regarding the condition of
Andover Road. I am aware of the condition of the r*oad surface and have
scheduled it for resurfacing this year. Our schedule is to open bids for
the project on August 13, 1980, and if an acceptable bid is received, to
award the contract within two weeks. After award, the contractor will
have thirty days to complete the paving. Therefore, if everything
goes per plan, the paving should be accomplished by the end of September;

RE: RESURFACING OF ANDOVER ROAD
Dear Mr. Blandon:
I have again talked with your office today and have now
been informed that bids for the Andover Road resurfacing
go out on August 1, 1980 and that work will begin shortly
thereafter.
To make you better understand my frustration, I've been
calling, as have other Andover residents, since April of
this year in an effort to get something done to our
street. I was told in April that it would be done in
May; told in May that it would be done in June; told in
June that it would be done in July; and now, in July, am
told that it will be done "shortly after the bids go out
on August l," which I assume to mean either August or
September.
The road is in really poor condition as could be
witnessed by anyone from your office who has driven down
it. At the top of the street there are potholes eighteen
inches across and up to six inches deep. No matter which
way you go to try to avoid them, you only hit another
one. Consequently there is damage being caused to.
automobiles - mine, in particular, is so far out of
alignment that it almost scares me to drive it. But to
expend the time and money to have it aligned would be
foolish at this point until the road is repaired. On the
other hand, at the bottom of Andover, where I live, the
dust is I'm sure reminiscent of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl
whenever a car comes up the road. It's a lesson in
futility to try to wash and wax one's cars, keep the
house dusted, enjoy sitting in the sun on nice days, etc.
I hate to use the old cliche, but I will. As taxpayers,
we truly feel we deserve better. In the seven years that
welve lived on Andover, the road has never been good, but
in the last two years, it's deteriorated to the point of
being maddening!
I would like your written, personal assurance that work
will commence on our road within the next month to six
weeks. Otherwise, I feel that the only alternative left
will be for the Andover residents to come collectively to
a City Council meeting and express our concerns and
displeasures with these delays. I
I would truly appreciate your response to this letter
with a confirmed time -table as to when we might expect
some positive action.
