Thank you for taking the time to inform me of the missing traffic signs
and hazardous situation on Olympic View Drive. In keeping track of the
traffic for the entire City, missing signs often escape my attention,
and I appreciate people keeping me up-to-date on specific areas. I
have reported the missing signs to our Street Division, and I am sure
that they will be replaced soon.
I am in the process of reviewing our truck load limits and signage, and
your idea of using "no commercial vehicles" is worth considering.
However, as Olympic View Drive is a designated arterial and serves as a
means for southbound vehicles to enter Edmonds, preventing commercial
traffic on Olympic View Drive entirely is not a desirable option, and
as you mentioned, it would be difficult to enforce.
Regarding speeding vehicles in the neighborhood of Olympic View Drive
and Talbot Road, I have reported your concerns to the Police Department
and expect that they will attempt to lower the vehicular speeds by
enforcement action. The road is designated as a "no passing zone" from
Perrinville to SR 524, and again, the presence of the Police should
deter this action.
I am not a proponent of putting up temporary stop signs, as drivers are
basically creatures of habit and are likely not to observe the change.
Because the SR 524 closure is temporary until Labor Day, to take down
the temporary stop sign would further confuse the drivers. I recognize
that closing SR 524 has increased the traffic in the Olympic View Drive
area, but it has also affected many other neighborhoods. I ask that
the residents bear with this, and recognize the temporary nature of the
situation.
