Reference: Geotech Consultants Letter dated August 21, 1986.
Dear Tom:
On September 25, 1986, a representative of Geotech Consultants
observed the installation of twenty-nine drilled piers at the
subject site. The eighteen inch diameter piers were installed
by. J. M. Bowen Construction Company with an auger drill without
casing. Concrete was immediately placed in the holes to prevent
caving.
The total depth of the piers ranged from eleven feet to fourteen
feet. The depth of embedment into bearing soils ranged from
five to . seven - feet depending on seepage and soil conditions
encountered. Pier No. 23 was located in the area of a former
test pit. An attempt to drill this, location proved fruitless,
as the entire test pit area caved into the augered hole. In
order to place a pier at this location the area was excavated to
a depth of approximately eight feet, two feet into the dense
sand unit, and filled with concrete to within eighteen inches of
subgrade. The location of the piers is indicated on Plate 1,
Drilled Pier Locations. The total depth and depths of embedment
are indicated on Table A., Pier Embedment.
In our professional opinion, the drilled piers and the backhoe
excavated pier have been installed adequately for a bearing
