The City has investigated your request for advance notification and safety enhancements
for High Street vehicles entering Olympic View Drive.
0 The Edmonds Police Department researched reported accidents and found that no
accidents have been reported at this location in the last three years.
0 The requirements for stopping sight distance per AASHTO guidelines were
measured. The existing available stopping sight distance measured from the stop
location on High Street in both directions to the centerline of the pavement on
Olympic View Drive is 210 Feet, with a plus or minus of 2 feet, depending on the
driver and the vehicle.
0 The required stopping sight distance per AASHTO at 25-UTH design speed is
150 feet, and the stopping sight distance per AASHTO at 30-MPH design speed is
200 feet.
0 There are currently advance warning signs placed by the City for roadway
entrance at a curve prior to High Street northbound on OlympicView Drive.
Therefore, warrants have not been met for additional safety improvements at this
location. It is important to note that the residents at High Street have mailboxes that can
be relocated to enhance vision.
