This letter is written to address the storm water situation I
at the subje-ct location described in your letter of February 13,
1979.
The main storm sewer lines, including the line in Wharf
Street., have been reviewed and based on criteria used.for
storm sewer design, the line in Wharf Stre I et was found to be
of adequate size..
Your letter mentions clogging as a possible cause of the
problem. Information from the Street Division indicates that
the inlet serving the new homes on the east side of Olympic
View Drive was clogged during the large storm of November 3,
1978. Our Street Crews have been alerted to watch this area
more closely.
To help keep runoff from entering the property at 18802
Olympic View Drive, the Street Division has recently added
asphalt.berms to guide water down Wharf Street to two inlets
on the south-side..of the street. Unfortunately, these inlets
appear to pick up vegetative material falling from trees
located on the property mentioned above. There are essentially
three inlets serving the intersection of concern in your letter.
The Public Works Division will view the intersection during heavy
rain to determine the need for additional berming and possibly
adjustment of inlet locations. Some of our City-wide efforts
to manage storm.water and some of the ways you or.your neigbors
can help are highlighted as follows:
1. Keep inlet grates clean. If you scrape off seasonal
build-ups of leaves or other material it would help
keep storm.drainage systems functioning at maximum
capacity.
2. If sediment builds up in catch basins or inlets so
that it nears the outlet pipe', the basins should be
cleaned. Call the Public Works Street Division at
775-2525, extension 250.

3. Keep debris, 1,itter and accumulations of leaves out
of drainage ways and gutters. Such materials can
cause flooding or downstream clogging. Be particularly
aware of this during early autumn.
In essense Storm Sewer Management requires the cooperation
and participation of all. If you have any.further questions
regarding this matter, please feel free to contact the Public
Works Department, 775-2525, extension 220.
