Based on data provided to this office by Mr. Robertson and conversations with
Jerry Hauth, City of Edmonds Hydraulics Engineer, the following calculations
and design are for the sizing of a retention, percolation, trench system for
the proposed gravel driveway on the above mentioned parcel:
Percolation Data: 1.5 min/in is assumed for parcel and is based on the
percolation tests located adjacent to the proposed
residence. Assumed Design Rate of 2 min./in.
Gravel Driveway: Surface area Approx. 3576 sq.ft. @ 0.7 runoff
coefficient. Ultimately the drive is assumed to be
paved.
Infiltration Trench
Design: Table 1 (Drainage System Standards City of Edmonds)
2 min/in Perc Rate requires 18 l.f. of trench/ 1000
sq.ft. of impervious surface therefore
3.576 ( 18 ) = 64.4 l.f. required
Install 70 l.f. 4" Perf. P.V.C. or ADS in a 21 x 21 x 701 long washed
gravel infiltration trench. Depth to the bottom of the trench 36".
See attached plan and details for installation location and standards--.
The following calculations are for the design of the infiltration trench
adjacent to the proposed residence, carport, storage shed and AC Paved
driveway:
Note: existing storage shed has been included into these calculations.
Storage Shed 800 sq.ft., Carport - 200 sq.ft., Residence - 1920 sq.ft.
A.C. Paving 1000 sq.ft. Total 3920 sq.ft.
Percolation Data: 1.25 min/in verified by city staff
Table I requires 14 l.f. per 1000 sq.ft. impervious therfore
3.92 x 14 = 54.88 l.f. required
Install 55 l.f. 4" perf. P.V.C. or ADS in 21 x 21 x 55' long washed gravel
trench. See site development plan for location of proposed trench. Typical
section per city of Edmonds standard plan for infiltration trench.
