Dear Bob,
This letter is being sent in response to your e-mail dated March 15, 2006 requesting approval to
exceed the maximum allowed driveway slope of 14% for some areas and 20% in a few isolated
areas.
It was identified during final engineering inspection on 2/14/06 that portions of the driveway were
not consistent with the slope requirements outlined in the Edmonds Community Development Code
(ECDC). Further investigation by the City, including level survey work on 3/2/06, confirmed that a
few small portions of the driveway did in fact exceed the maximum allowable slope of 20%.
Per ECDC 18.80.060, it is stated:
1. The driveway will not present a traffic, pedestrian, bicycle or safety hazard.
2. The public health, safety and general welfare will not be adversely affected.
City staff has detennined that both of these requirements have been met and that alteration of the
driveway would place a greater cross slope on the public walkway and would create a situation in
which public safety would be adversely affected.
For these reasons your driveway will be allowed to remain as constructed, with the driveway slope
as shown in the attached survey level work documentation.
