RE: NOTICE OF CORRECTION, Right -of -Way Permit #2002-0215
Our files indicate that right-of-way permit # 2002-0215 has not received final
Engineering Division approval. A final Engineering inspection was made at 202 10 and
2021492 nd Ave W on December 4, 2002. A Notice of Correction (attached) was left at
that time with the following corrections.
1. Curb and Gutter to be poured separate from sidewalk. Expansion joint between
curb/gutter and sidewalk is required.
2. 20214 must pave a minimum 20 feet from back of sidewalk onto property.
3. Recall for inspection once corrected.
None of the above corrections have been made, as verified by a field inspection on
August 21, 2003. These corrections are required in order to bring the sidewalk and
driveway construction into compli�nce with the City of Edmonds codes and policies.
Please complete the corrections listed by September 10, 2003 to prevent code
enforcement action. A form inspection is required prior to pour. You can call for an
engineering inspection at 771-0220, ext. 1326. If you have any questions regarding these
requirements, please contact meat 771-02 2-0-, ext. 133 8.

your letter on September 8, 2003.
I am requesting a waiver to item 1 on the correction notice sent to us on December 4,
2002. Our curb, gutter and sidewalk were a monol.ithic pour for a few reasons. One,
several neighbors of mine have monolithic pours. Two, a mono pour is a stronger hold
where the curb and gutter cannot "settle" lower than the sidewalk. Three, weeds do not
grow between the curb / gutter and sidewalk, and Four, mono -pours look better. Everett,
Seattle and Lake City allow and / or require monoUthic pours probably for the same
reasons as above. The pour at my house looks great too and you can't even tell it is one
pour.
I would be happy to comply with item 2, however, I would like more time. I would like
another 3 months. Do you need to inspect the forming of the 20-foot driveway prior to
pouring? Also, is asphalt allowed for the driveway?

Dear Mr. Meitzner
This letter is being sent in response to your letter dated September 10, 2003 requesting a
waiver from the City requirement to pour the curb and gutter separate from the sidewalk.
City of Edmonds standards require that curb and gutter shall be poured separately from
the sidewalk. I have attached the standard detail for your reference. The City of
Edmonds requires that curb and gutter be poured separately from the sidewalk for the
following reasons:
1. Cost and labor associated with maintenance is less. When repair is required the City
of Edmonds Public Works Department is only required to remove either the curb/gutter
or sidewalk and not both.
2. When settlement occurs there is less likelihood for cracking with the curb and gutter
being poured separately from the sidewalk.
All permitted private development construction is required to follow the established City
of Edmonds standard details. For these reasons, the City will not waive this requirement.
Please perform the following corrections in order to bring the sidewalk and driveway
construction into compliance.
1. Pour curb and gutter separate from sidewalk. Expansion joint is to be placed between
curb/gutter and sidewalk.
2. Pave the driveway entrance for'20214 a minimum of 20 feet from back of sidewalk
onto property. The driveway can be constructed of either concrete or asphalt.
3. Recall for from inspection prior to pour and then again for a final inspection once all
work is complete.

Dear Resident:
The City of Edmonds Water Section has recently installed a water
valve to help improve the water pressure and fire flows in your area.
Since some of the residents on top of the hill have had low pressure in
the past, the new valve will eliminate,this problem.
. Currently, the pressure in the area is 35-40 P.S.I. and now will
range from 95 to 105 P.S.I. "The City does require a pressure reducer
valve at the house, however, since some of the existing houses may not
have a pressure reducer valve, you are required to install one to
protect against possible leaks due to the change in pressure.
This is a relatively inexpensive item (between $45-$50) and it may
be adjusted to control the pressure in your house. The pressure
reducing valve should be installed prior to April 30, 1986.
