Good morning, I checked the last time that we had our fire system tested and the date is 11/29/2012 so we are due is a
couple of months. Evergreen security usually contacts a couple of weeks before the due date to have the fire system and
burglar alarm system tested. Thanks for asking.

Mr. Larson,
A fire inspection was conducted at the Church on 9/26/13 and the Captain indicated on the form that no violations were

Duct penetrations and dampers are similarly the responsibility of the Mechanical contractor.
11., Clear vertical height at Detail 2/A8 is less than 300, therefore, attic access is not required.
Access doors have been noted on Detail AA/A7.
12. Dumbwaiter shaft exception #3 under 1706 (a) appears to me an exception for shafts
serving more than one adjacent floor, As Exception 1 permits no enclosure for openings
like ours, serving only one adjacent floor, I would request your re -consideration of this as
the appropriate exception.
Door #1 19B will remain a 1 1/2 hours assembly. (Considering the inherent 1 hour and 2
hour construction of the shaft walls, and the 1 1/2 hour door assembly at the upper floor,
it seems far safer than the code allows, by any of the exceptions.)
13. Underfloor ventilation is indicated on Foundation Plan/S2.
14. At 1/150 venting ratio: the 59'span requires 0.393 sf of vent per foot.
If the 20 strip vent at Detail 3/A8 is increased to X, and is 85% efficient, it provides 0.213 sf
of vent/ft. Thus leaving 0.181 sf/ft. of vent to be provided through vent holes in the
sheathing and roof jacks in the side wall.
94 dia. roof jacks (.340 sf each) at 24* o.c. with (1) 91 dia. vent hole in each 24* joist space
below have been noted on BB/A7.
15. Ventilation has been noted on BB/A7.
16. 16 x 8 (58' sq. in. free) soffit vents at 24' - O.C. maximum have been noted on Detail 2/A9.
18 March 1992

At 2JA8, the 12 x 12 attic vents on opposite sides provides cross ventilation via the raised

1. Note has been corrected.
2. Section 3303 (b) states that the width of exits shall be divided approximately equally. I
request your reconsideration of this condition as complying with the code.
3. Doors 006A & 006B equally serve to exit lower Foyer 006. The dotted line indicates the

Per a meeting on 27 August 1991 and a subsequent phone conversation on 4 September
1991 with Mr. Mumma, the door was allowed and was directed to swing -the direction
shown. There was discussion that it could be signed from the Corridor 110 side 'NOT AN
EXIT.0 Such a sign could be placed behind Door 11 OC when in the open position so as to
be read only if and when the hold open releases the door in an emergency. Please advise
me of your preference.,
6.

The width of the stairway at 006 is detailed at 2-/A4. Dimensions for Stair 010 have been
added at the lower floor plan/A3. Section 3319 (g) does not apply to this A2.1 occupancy.
14.
Risers for Stairs 006 & 010 are indicated in the Building Sections on A7. Treads are
indicated in Plan on A3 and 2/A4. Risers have been noted for exterior stairs in Plan /A3.

8. The new mansard is essentially over framing on the existing roof structure. We
believe the additional dead load is inconsequential. We prefer to provide any
details required by the contractor during construction once the existing framing is
revealed.
9. Detail 6 has been added to sheet S6.
10. Additional calculations are enclosed with this letter.
11. Additional calculations are enclosed with this letter.
12. The drawings have been revised.
13. The structural notes have been revised regarding nail spacing. 8d nails provide
sufficient diaphragm strength and are fully developed (1-1/2" required penetration)
with the 1/4" plywood.
14. We are aware of the in grade testing provisions. We believe premature
implementation is not in the best interest of the owner.

STATENENT OF REASONS FOR REQUEST
1. Existing building has shakes installed as per specifications
attached.
2. It becomes necessary to use shakes on new addition in order to
tie in satisfactorily in an asthetic manner to the existing
building.
3. The specification enclosed has been proven to be satisfactory in
controlling flame spread, etc. and I propose is satisfactory for
use in this case.
4. The use of the church is limited, no sleeping functions.
5. me, scc 'backs are more than sufficlet-ic [or control.
6. The cost of fire treated shakes, including, steel foil, is
approximately $80 per square, delivered.
7. The cost of proposed method is approximately $40 per square at
this time, including asbestos felt; just one-half the cost.
8. Delivery time on treated shakes is almost impossible, 3 to 4
months.
9. Fire treated shakes, even though they won't burn, are dry and
are very difficult to lay, with murk waste and extra cost, as
(in $3 1wr n(Imire wore to Instfil'] ovei- regular shakes.
1O.''For these and many other reasons I ask for your consideration
to allow use of the specification of asbestos underlay and
interweave as proposed for the Edgewood Baptist Church addition.
