the swale. Frow your long familiarity with the property and hom soil test holes you had
me dig on'adjoining property and along the axis of the same swale last year, you anticipated
unfavorabl� conditions for foundation support on your current project Four new test pit$
were dug this past week end to dcterm"ine foundation needs for the two new lots.

and 3 of Shoirt Plat 5-9-85 in tbt vicinity of 20621 - 88th Avenue, W. The two lots occupy
a swale in such a way that parts of both building areas will necessarily be, near the axis of
the swale. Froin your long familiarity with the property and fromsoil. Wst holes you had
ine dig on- adjoining property and along the =is of the same male last year, you anticipated
unfavorable conditions for foundation support on your current project- Four new test pits
were dug, ibis past'week.cm.d to.detennine fouadation needs for the two new lots.

locations at which test holes were dug. Subsurface conditions noted are �riefly describes

T�he deepest relevant soil is glacial till in which all test holes terminated. Witbin the swale,
soft and partiailly�-orgauic sediment has'accumulated overthousands of -yeam Verf rougbly
between 11/3 and 4 feet thick of loam with iubble and some organic matter have been fWed
over the native soil.
The natural organiccouttiving sediment is saturated below th6 approximate natural
topographic low..
These conditions preclude your, having a conventional spread footing foundation system.
I irecommend that the house be supported on swaH-diimeter steel piles. I spoke with
Mr. Welker, your structural engineer, who has concluded that the optimum pile size would
be 3 ivob. Exact lengtlls wffibe dictated by'load requirements and driving performance as
on the completed adjacent house.
