Dear Mr. & Mrs. Raflo:
Sidewalk construction projects within the City of Edmonds in the recent past have been
limited to areas where children frequently walk or where development impact fees have
been designated for a specific street. Completion of the four blocks of sidewalk on 88th
Avenue W. is a higher priority than the walkway on Maplewood Drive, since a small
addition of sidewalk will complete the walkway on 88th Avenue W. between Main Street
and Olympic View Drive.
At this time, there is no projected date for construction of a sidewalk on Maplewood
Drive. Several areas near parks and schools are considered to be a higher priority than
your street at present. A petition signed by residents along Maplewood Drive might up
the priority of your street. Since safety is the primary factor used to prioritize sidewalk
improvement projects, a walkway is'unlikely to be installed on your street in the near
future.

with us the City's future plans to construct sidewalks on the
east side of Maplewood Drive between Main Street and 204th
Street.

Mr. Walker, we strongly favor that a "concrete." sidewalk be built
just like the other existing -sidewalks in our area as on 207th
Place SW and on the sparsely travelled part of 88th Avenue W.
(between 200th St. SW and 207th Pl. SW) . I have enclosed
photographs of these sidewalks. As you can see from the photo of
our corner of Maplewood Drive and 207th Place SW, a nice concrete
sidewalk now terminates at Maplewoc�d Drive. We urge the City to
build a concrete sidewalk --an asphalt -type sidewalk would look
awful along Maplewood Drive.
Also, we hope the City will complete the sidewalk project sooner
rather than later. Could you give us a more definite timeframe
than the "within 5 years" mentioned by Roy. Could the project be
put on a front burner if we were able to gather a petition of our
neighbors? Please let us know.
By the way, Lisa is a graduate student in the University of
Washington's Landscape Architecture program and has worked with
other cities on streetscape issues.
