This letter is in response to your request to construct new sidewalk on the west side of
83'd Avenue West between the Woodridge Apartments and Woodlake Drive.
The recent sidewalk improvements on 212 1h Street SW, Caspers Street and P Avenue North
have been possible because of state and federal grants secured by the City. The grant provisions
do not allow the City to spend the money in other areas of the City and they restrict the spending
to the project it was intended for.
Unfortunately, the need for sidewalks is significantly greater than the funding available. In
2009, the City Walkway Committee updated and prioritized a list of sidewalk projects for the
City. The Walkway Committee, comprised of Edmonds' residents, identified 34 projects with a
total cost over $15 million dollars. These projects were identified to improve pedestrian
corridors that connect to schools, parks, transit and business districts. None of the projects have
funding at this time and it will be difficult to construct them unless additional transportation
funding becomes available in the future.
For these reasons, the City will not be able to build the requested sidewalk on 83 d Avenue West.
