SUBJECT: REMOVAL OF TREE - '21'0'04 WOODLAKE'DRIVE
On June 12, 1979, Mr. Ron Norman of 21004 Woodlake Drive called to
inform the Public Works Department of a dead or dying tree in the City
right-of-way. He wanted to know if something could be done. Upon in-
spection I found the 75'-80' fir was under stress, due to black topping
and heavy landscaping around its base; with about 60% of its root system
covered over with asphalt and the balance with rocks and shrubs.
Certain species of the evergreen conifers are not tolerant of soil
compaction and this one had a 40% chance of survival. Due to the
length of time needed, and the high cost of trying to maintain this tree
I recommended that it be taken down. It is also susceptible to disease
at this stage, and would be a safety problem in a very short time.
Washington Tree Service was contracted to have this tree taken down and'
Qn.-July-17.,11979, the workmen were on the scene, when the neighbors
decided that they wanted the tree saved for aesthetic reasons. Mrs.
Loretta Radwick of 20908 Woodlake Drive (775-9048) and another neighbor
called and wanted a 24-hour postponement on the falling.
I was at the location and informed the Director of Public Works of the
action. I also informed Mrs. Radwick and her friend that they would be
responsible for the maintenance and all the liability regarding the tree,
and the City would not be held responsible for any problems that might
arise.
At 8:00 a.m. July 18, 1979, Mrs. Radwick called to apologize for her
'ity of the residents
rudeness on the phone and informed me that the majorl
in that community would like to have the City take the dying tree down.
I informed Bobby Mills of the Street Division to contract W.T.S. to
schedule the falling.
