Each year in December, your.City Council approves a budget which typically includes enough money to build a section of walkway in the City. When projects are prioritized each spring, City staff considers letters of request such as yours to help indicate where neighborhood support lies. However, the ultimate decision' in where to place walkways lies with your City Council. For that reason, it is suggested that you, together with the support of your neighbors, express your interest in this project to your City Council. I was surprised to see the number of people that walk, jog, etc in this area,which is great. We were sent a letter last summer informing us that 80th Ave would be resurfaced last summer - summer of '93, and it didn't happen. It was my understanding at that time there was mention of installing sidewalks on the west side of the street. Of course as you know, the resurfacing did happen this summer, and appears to be a nice surface which I hope it will withstand the weather etc. in good fashion. Now to my point of this letter. Sidewalks were not installed this summer and since I am employed at a high school I have opportunity to be off work four weeks in the summertime. I am concerned at the amount of young children who live in this area and find it necessary to walk, roller blade, etc. on this street. Also, there is a young man in a wheel chair who used this street fi-equently this summer abd I was ve7 concerned about his safety many times. He was out in the street since there wasn't a sidewal for him. Additionally, there seem to be a fair amount of young couples who walk early morning and in the evening, also mothers with strollers. My children are grown and have their own families now, but I remember how difficult it is to push a stroller on the road and have to constantly be moving over to the shoulder where it is nearly impossible to maneuver. I doubt that I have any input in this situation, but I would highly recommend you take a look at this street and place it on the top of your priority list for installation of a sidewalk from 212th to 208th on 80th Ave. Thank you very much for your time.
