Thank you for your letter of May 28, 2004. The city shares your concerns about the roots that
could eventually cause a blockage in your sewer line. As you know, the City recently
reimbursed you approximately $11,000 for work to restore sewer service to your property. It is
the City's belief that the materials and methods used to repair your side sewer will significantly
reduce the chance that tree roots will obstruct your sewer line again without the need to remove
the cedar tree.
In addition, the City will be applying a root killing chemical on an annual basis on the portion of
the side sewer within the City right-of-way. The chemical will be applied at the cleanout
installed at your property line. This is a preventative measure being taken since the City's
portion of the side sewer to your property was not replaced within the right-of-way and we want
to eliminate the possibility that another blockage will occur in the future from tree roots.
Again, we believe that adequate precautions are being taken without the need to remove -the
tree.
