Good talking with you this AM. Comcast is approved under NFPA code 72 under the MFVN section we talked about. We
will provide a dedicated line and a backup line as does Frontier provide today. The on premise Comcast EMTA will have
the approved 8 hour battery backup and the Comcast head end ( Central Office) will have the mandated 24 hour battery
backup per your request.

The Telguard TG-7FS is the ideal cellular alarm communications solution
for commercial fire systems. The TG-7FS transmits alarm signals from
the fire panel over the digital cellular network to the designated
monitoring station.
Compliant with the 2010 Edition of NFPA 72, the TG-7FS can serve as
the sole communications path for the fire alarm system, replacing all
of the landlines currently dedicated to the master control unit. On
average, cellular monitoring costs the end user significantly less than
a dedicated landline. For each landline replaced with a TG-7FS, the
monthly communications bill decreases.
By being able to signal failures to the central station within five
minutes of an outage, the TG-7FS can be installed as the sole path for
commercial fire installations. For existing installations, all landlines
can be swapped for a single TG-7FS because of the new five minute
supervision mode.
The TG-7FS can also be installed as a backup path, and upgraded to
sole path at a later date,

SUBJECT: LOCAL CHURCHES HOUSING THE HOMELESS
Directive F.D. 2004-012
It was recently brought to our attention by an alert Engine Company that local churches are
housing the homeless. Upon further investigation by the Fire Prevention Division and the Building
Official, and consultation with the City Attorney, a meeting was held with the umbrella agency
sponsoring the program. On August 4, Gary McComas and Jeannine Graf met with Alana Rose
Gunne, Executive Director of the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Seattle (206-363-3199, 206-363-
3199). The following agreement was reached: churches in Edmonds are allowed to host the
homeless under the conditions described below.
1. The homeless are rigorously screened by members of the Interfaith Hospitality Network of
Seattle.
2. The Interfaith Hospitality Network of Seattle Guest Guidelines is strictly enforced.
3. The Fire Department is notified when an Edmonds area church is housing a group of
homeless. Members receiving notification will send out the dates, and church name and
address via email to:

4. Two non -homeless monitors are on site, awake and performing as a fire/security watch.
5. Sleeping areas are located in spaces with obvious and accessible means of egress.
6. A single station smoke detector is located in the designated sleeping area.
7. Documentation of flame-retardant properties of tents being used is provided, or, if none can
be provided, the tents are treated with an approved flame retardant.
The tentative schedule for hosting the homeless in Edmonds area churches from August 22
through December 25 is:

INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR
2400 AND 2400TH DIRECT WIRE SMOKE DETECTORS
Before installing detectors, please thoroughly read System Sensor's Manual 156-407-XX, Guide for Proper Use of System
Smoke Detectors. This manual provides detailed information on detector spacing, placement, zoning, wiring, and special
applications. Copies of this manual are available at no charge from System Sensor (For installations in Canada refer to
CAN4-S524, Standard for the Installation of FireAlarrn Systems and CEC Part 1, Sec. 32).
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
System Sensor N00 photoelectronic detectors use state-of-the-art, optical sensing chambers. These detectors are de-
signed to provide open area protection, and are intended for use with compatible UL-listed 2-wire control panels only. The
detector's operation and sensitivity can be tested in place. Model 2400TH has the same specifications as model 2400, but
a!so feMureq_ a restnrabl.A, built-in, fixed temperature (1 350F) t�iermal detection unit.
These detectors are listed to UL 268 and are latching type system detectors. When latched in alarm, the detectors must be
reset by.a momentary power interruption.
An LED on the detector provides a local indication of the detector's status. This LED blinks every 10 seconds when the
detector is re ceiving power and ready in standby and is latched on continuously in alarm until the detector is reset. The
detector provides an output for connection to an optional Remote Annunciator (Model RA40OZ). The Remote Annunciator
mounts to a single gang box and provides a supplementary alarm indication.

MOUNTING
Each 2400 detector is supplied with a mounting bracket kit that permits the detector to be mounted:
1. Directly to a 3-1/2 inch or 4 inch octagonal, 1-1/2 inch deep electrical box, (See Figure 1) or:
2. To a 4 inch square electrical box by using the plaster ring with the supplied mounting bracket kit.

SPACING
NFPA 72E defines the spacing requirements for smoke detectors. Typically, this is 30 feet when the detectors are installed
on a smooth ceiling. However, ALL installations must comply with NFPA 72E and/or special requirements of the authority
having jurisdiction.
INSTALLATION WIRING GUIDELINES
All wiring must be installed in compliance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes, and any special
requirements of the local authority having jurisdiction. Proper wire gauges should be used. The conductors used to connect
smoke detectors to control panels and accessory devices should be color -coded to reduce the likelihood of wiring errors.
Improper connections can prevent a system from responding property in the event of a fire.

For signal widng (the wiriing between interconnected detectors), it is recommended that the wire be no smaller than AWG
18. However, the screws and clamping plate, in the base can, accommodate wire sizes up to AWG 12. The use of twisted
pair wiriing for the power (+ and -) loop is recommended to minimize the effects of electdcal interference.
Smoke detectors and alarm system control panels have specifications for allowable loop resistance. Consult the control
panel manufacturer's specifications for the total loop resistance allowed for the control panel being used before wiriing the
detector loops.
Make wire connections by stdpping about 3/8 inch of insulation from the end of the wire and sliding the bare end of the wire
under the clamping plate, and tightening the clamping plate screw.
A widng diagram for a typical 2-wire detector system is shown in Figure 3.
System Sensor's smoke detectors are marked with a compatibility identifier located as the last digit of a five -digit code
stamped on the back of the product. Connect detectors only to compatible control units as indicated in System Sensor's
compatibility chart which contains a current
list of UL-listed control units and detectors. A
copy of this list is available from System Sen-
sor upon request.

without the use of a tool. To make the detector tamper- resistant, break off the smaller tab at the sc6bed line on the tamper
resistant tab, on the detector mounting bracket (see Figure 2), then install- the detector. To remove the detector from the. -
bracket once it has been made tamper resistant, use a small screwdriver to depress the tamper -resistant tab located in the
slot on the mounting bracket and turn the detector counterclockwise for removal.

INSTALLATION
WARNING
Disable the power from initiating device circuits before installing detectors.
1. Wire each detector following installation guidelines.
2. Line up arrows on the detector with arrows on the mounting bracket.
3. Turn the detector clockwise until it clicks into place.
4. After all detectors have been installed, apply power to the control unit.
5. Test the detector as described under TESTING.
6. Reset the detector at the system control panel.
7. Notify the proper authorities that the system is in operation.
CAUTION
Dust covers can be used to help limit dust entry.to the detector, However, these covers are not a substitute for removing the
detector during building construction. Remove any dust covers before placing the system in service.
TESTING
Before testing, notify the proper authorities that the smoke detector system is undergoing maintenance, and the system will
be temporarily out of service. Disable the zone or system undergoing maintenance to prevent unwanted alarms.

Before testing the detector, look for the presence of
the flashing LED. If it does not flash, power has
been lost to the detector (check the wiring), or it is
defective (return for repair — refer to Warranty infor-

ing (See Figure 4).
2. Press and hold the recessed test switch with a 0.1 inch maximum diameter tool.
3. The LED on the detector should light within 5 seconds.
B. Calibrated Test Card (R59-18-00)
1 . Remove the detector cover by placing a small bladed screwdriver in the side slot of the detector cover, twisting it
slightly until the cover can be turned counterclockwise lor removal.
2. Insert the NO ALARM end of the test card fully into the test slot (See Figure 5) then slide it counterclockwise until it
stops.
3. The detector should not alarm after 20 seconds.
4. Remove the test card by sliding it clockwise before removing, then insert the ALARM end.
5. The LED should latch on within 20 seconds. An alarm should also be initiated at the panel.6. Put the cover back by
gently rotating it clockwise until it locks in place.
C. Test Module (System Sensor Model No. MOD40OR or MOD400)
The MOD40OR or MOD40OTest Module is used with an analog or digital voltmeter to check the detector sensitivity as
described in the test module's manual.
D. Aerosol Generator (Gemini 501)
Set the aerosol generator to represent 40/o/Ft to 50/o/Ft obscuration as described in the Gemini 501 manual. Using the
bowl shaped applicator, apply aerosol until unit alarms.

Direct Heat Test (2400TH only)
To test the bi-metallic thermal collector on the Model 2400TH, use a low powered heat gun or blow dryer, aiming the
heat source acrots the detector. Hold the heat source about 12
inches (30 cm) from the detector to avoid damaging the plastic.
When the heat rises to greater than 1135T, the detector will latch
in alarm. After the test, the bi-metallic collector will self -restore. REMOVABLE HEAD COVER
Notify the proper authorities that the system is back on line.
Clean and all detectors that fail these tests as described under
MAINTENANCE and retest. If a detector still fail these tests, return it ST
for repair.
MAINTENANCE
NOTE: Before removing the detector, notify the proper autoirities
that the smoke detector system is undergoing maintenance
and, therefore, will be temporarily out of service. Disable the
zone or system undergoing maintenance to prevent un-
wanted alarms.

1 . Remove the detector cover by placing a small bladed screwdiriver
in the side slot of the detector cover, twisting it slightly until the
cover can be turned counterclockwise for removal.
2. Vacuum the screen carefully without removing it. If further clean-

4. Clean the vaned chamber piece by vacuuming or blowing out dust and particles.
5. To replace the screen, orient it so that the arrow on top aligns with the test module socket of the detector. Carefully push
the screen onto the base, making sure it fits tightly to the chamber.
6. Replace the cover by gently rotating it clockwise until it locks in place.
7. Notify the proper authorities that the system is back on line.
WAR14ING
UMITATIONS OF SMOKE DETECMRS
This smoke detector is designed to activate and initiate emergency action, but will do so only when used in conjunction with other equipment This detector
is designed for installation in accordance with NFPA standards 71, 72A, 728, 72C. 720, and 72E.
Smoke detectors cannot work without power. AC or DC powered smoke detectors will not work if the power supply is cut off for any reason.
Smoke detectors will not sense fires which start where smoke does not reach the detectors. Smoke from fires in chimneys, in walls, on roots or on
the other side of closed do ors may not reach the smoke detector and alarm it.
A detector may not detect a fire developing on another level of a building. For this reason, detectors should be located on every level of a building.
Smoke detectorg have sensing limitations, too. Ionization detectors offer a broad range fire -sensing capability, but they are better at detecting fast, flam-
ing fires than slow smoldering fires. Photoelectranic detectors =nse smoldering fires better than flaming fires. Because fires develop in differentways, and
are often unpredictable in their growth, neither type of detector is always best, and a given detector may not always provide warning of a fire. In general,
detectors cannot be expected to provide warnings for fires resulting from inadequate fire protection practices, violent explosions, escaping gas, improper
storage of flammable liquids like cleaning solvents, other safety hazards, or arson. Smoke detectors used in high air velocity conditions may fail to alarm
due to dilution of smoke densities created by such frequent and rapid air exchanges. Additionalli, high air velocity environments may create increased dust
contamination, demanding more frequent maintenance.
Smoke detectors cannot last forever. Smoke detectors contain electronic parts. Even though detectors are made to last over 10 years, any of these parts
could fail at any time. Therefore, test your smoke detector system per NFPA 72E at least semiannually. Clean and take care of your smoke detectors regu-
lady. Taking care of the fire detection system you have installed will measurably reduce your product liability risks.
THREE YEAR LIMrrED WARRANTY
System Sensor warrants its enclosed smoke detector to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of
three years from date of manufacture. System Sensor makes no other express warranty for this smoke detector. No agent, representative, dealer, or em-
ployee of the Company has the authority to increase or alter the obligations or limitations of this Warranty. The Company's obligation of this Warranty shall
be limited to the repair or replacement of any part of the smoke detector which is found to be defective in materials or workmanship under normal use and

1106.14.4 Controls. Telephones shall have push-button
controls where service for such equipment is available.
1106.14.5 Cord length. The cord from the telephone to
the handset shall be not less than 29 inches (737 mm) in
length.
1106.14.6 Text telephones. Text telephones shall be
permanently affixed within, or adjacent to, the telephone
enclosure. Where an acoustic coupler is used, the
telephone cord shall be sufficiently long to allow
connection of the text telephone and the telephone
receiver.
1106.14.7 Shelf and electrical outlet. Shelves and an
electrical outlet shall be located within or adjacent to the
telephone enclosure. The shelf shall be not less than 10
inches by 10 inches (255 mm by 255 nun) in dimension,
with a vertical clearance above the shelf of not less than 6
inches (152 mm). The telephone handset shall be capable
of being placed flush on the surface of the shelf.
1106.15 Alarms.
1106.15.1 Audiblealarms. Audible alarms shall
produce a sound in accordance with the Fire Code.
1106.15.2 Visible alarms. Visible alarm signal
appliances shall be integrated into the budding or facility
alarm system. Where single -station audible alarms are
provided, single -station visible alarm signals shall be
provided.
EXCEPTION: Dwelling units in Group R, Division I
apartment buildings.
Visible alarms shall be located not less than 80 inches
(2030 mm) above floor level, or 6 inches (152 mm) below
the ceiling, whichever is lower, and at an interval of not
more than 50 feet (15 m) horizontal, in rooms, corridors,
and hallways.
In rooms or spaces exceeding 100 feet (30m) in
horizontal dimension, with no obstructions exceeding 6
feet (1830 mm) in height above the finished floor, visible
alarms may be placed around the perimeter at intervals not
to exceed 1.00 feet (30m) horizontally.
Visible alarm.signals shall comply with the following
criteria:
I. The lamp shall be a xenon strobe type or equivalent.
2. The color shall be clear or unfiltered white light.
3. The maximum pulse duration shall be two -tenths of
one second (0.2 sec) with a maximum duty cycle of 40
percent. The pulse duration is defined as the time interval
between initial and final point of 10 percent of maximum
signal.
4. The intensity shall be a minimum of 75 candela.
5., The flash rate shall be a minimum of I Hz and a
maximum of 3 Hz.
1106.15.3 Access to manual fire alarm systems.
Manual fire alarm devices shall be mounted not more than
54 inches (1370 mm) above the floor where a parallel
approach is provided.

NOTE: The rated output of the sounder Is specified at 10 feet. ft cannot be assumed that the output will meet the NFPA standard of 15 dB over am-
blent noise at all locations within a room. Additional sounders may be needed to ensure sound output level compiles with NFPA require-
ments.

Description
The BG-10 Series Pull Stationsare non -coded, du�i'action, normally -open manual pullstations with thefollowing options:
BG-10A (with AUX. switch); BG-10L (with key for reset); BG-1OP/T (with key for presignal or test); BG-10N (without
terminal block); BG-10WP (BG-10 enclosed in a weatherproof backbox); HR10 (Halon Release, with wihng the same as
the BG-10); AR-1 OF (Agent Re!ease, with wiring the same as the BG-10).
BG-10 Series Operation
When the dual -action door is pushed in and the handle pulled down, the N.O. push -type switches will close. The handle
cannot be restored to its normal position until the station is manually reset by unscrewing the hex screw and pivoting the
case downward, away from the oackplate. When the handle is restored, return the case to its normal position and secure
with the hex screw. Note: The BG-1 OL utilizes a mechanical key instead of a hex screw. The microswitch of BG-1 OP/T
is activated by rotating a key clockwise. The key cannot be removed while in this position.
