Double Check Detector Assemblies
Sizes: 2" - 3" (50 - 80mm)
Series 007DCDA Double Check Detector Assemblies are designed exclu-
sively for use in accordance with water utility authority on non -health hazard
containment requirements. It is mandatory to prevent the reverse flow of fire
protection system substances, i.e., glycerin wetting agents, stagnant water
and water of non -potable quality from being pumped or siphoned into the
potable water line.
Benefits: Detects leaks ... with emphasis on the cost of unaccountable water;
incorporates a meter which allows the water utility to:
• detect underground leaks that historically create great annual
cost due to waste.
• provide a detection point for unauthorized use. It can help locate illegal
taps.
Modular check design concept facilitates maintenance and assembly access.
All sizes are standardly equipped with resilient seated CSY shutoff valves
and 5A" x 3/4" (16 x 19mm) meter.
Features
• Fused epoxy coated cast iron unibody 21/2" — 3" (65 — 76mm)
• Replaceable bronze seats
• Maximum flow at low pressure drop
• Compact for ease of installation
• Design simplicity for easy maintenance
• No special tools required for servicing
• Bronze body ball valve test cocks
• Modular spring loaded checks
• Furnished with bronze %" x 3/4" (16 x 19mm) meter
Specifications
A Double Check Detector Assembly shall be installed on fire protection sys-
tems when connected to a potable water supply. Degree of hazard present is
determined by the local authority having jurisdiction. The backflow preventer
shall be a complete assembly including UL listed resilient seated CSY shutoff
valves and four test cocks. The test cocks located on the backfiow preventer
shall be mounted at the top of the valve to reduce clearance problems and to
assist in the evacuation of air from the assembly. The assembly shall consist of
two independently operating modular poppet -type check valves. The check
valves shall utilize captured springs and shall have replaceable seats. The
checks shall be double -guided, both along the outside edge of the check
module and through the center stem assembly. The seats shall be replaceable
without the use of special tools. Seat retention shall be done by the use of an
interlocking bayonet -We cage and the use of threaded seats or seat screws
is prohibited. Access to the internal check assemblies shall be via a single top
entry cover. The cover shall be securely held in place by sunless steel bolts.
Where applicable the unit shall be FM approved with FM approved OSY
resilient seated shutDff valves. The assembly shall include an auxiliary bypass
fine consisting of an approved backflow preventer and water meter.
The assembly shall be listed or approved under the requirements of ASSE Std .
1048, AWWA Std. C510-92 and CSA B64.5. Approved by the Foundation for
Gross -Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of
Southern California. The assembly shall be a Watts Regulator Company Series
0070CDA.

RE: Request for Driveway Cut Waiver
Dear Mr. Fahey;
GARY HAAKENSON
MAYOR
The City of Edmonds has received your request for a waiver of the standard
driveway cut dated March 3, 2010. It is understood that the existing driveway is
angled for access from the southbound lane but now that the street has been
designated as one-way northbound, the angle necessary to turn into the
driveway is difficult. If the standard driveway cut maximum is 24ft, it would still not
alleviate this problem. Therefore considering the challenges of this property's
access issues, the City will approve the subject waiver request. The driveway cut
waiver is granted up to 30ft in width.
If you have any questions please call JoAnne Zulauf at 425-771-0220, ext 1324.
Sincerely,
eal t I -

RE: Request for modified curb cut at 613 2 d Ave N
Dear Director Miller:
In August of 2008, we purchased our home at 613 2 d Ave N. Since that time we have
been working very hard on pla'nning and remodeling the property to make a permanent
home in Edmonds for our growing family. The City's Engineering, Public Works,
Planning, and Building Departments have been most helpful during our project.
Prior to our remodel, our driveway was designed for single -car access to a garage on the
backside of the home. The driveway is angled to 2 "d Avenue North to accommodate
south -bound traffic, and this makes for a difficult turn when driving north -bound. Ours
appears to be one of the only driveways on the street with this type of angle. As you may
know, the north -end of the 2 d Avenue has been partially blocked by the city and the
street is now essentially one-way north -bound.
On October 13, 2009 we were granted Right of Way Permit #ENG20090323 for a
driveway modification and curb cut to accommodate our new level -entry 2-car garage
and address the driveway angle to the street.
Since obt * ainlihg the permit and removing the old driveway, however, we have discovered
challenges with the prescribed driveway layout. Specifically: the south curb cut must be
moved to accommodate the new garage, and the north curb cut would need to be moved
south to meet the City's standard driveway entrance of 24-feet for a 2-car garage as
outlined on drawing E2.26. This would ' create a sizeable gap between our existing front
brick walkway and the newly -specified north driveway edge. And because of the angle of
the street, this may, result in a curb cut that is narrower than the driveway.
We would be extremely grateftil to obtain an exception to the curb cut definition of 24-
feet for a 2-car garage. There is no sidewalk at our property. A wider curb cut allowance
would allow us to keep the existing north curb cut, maintain the north driveway line to tie
in with our existing brick walkway, and maintain more off-street parking given the 3-
hour limit posted on 2 nd Avenue North. We feel this would serve our property and
neighborhood much better given the layout of the house, street, and front brick walkway.
Enclosed are the original and proposed plot plans which outline the challenges we are
facing. I would enjoy discussing any ideas or direction you may have in completing our
project. And I hope you will able to approve an exception for our proposed curb cut.
Yo s Sincerely,
Jim Fahey

RE: 2362584 th Ave W Safety Hazard
To Whom It May Concern:
The purpose of this letter is to advise you of a possible safety hazard observed on your property located
within the City of Edmonds at 23625 84 th Ave W. This warning is in response to a citizen complaint
received January 4 th , 2010. There is a large evergreen tree located near the west property line that
appears to be progressively leaning towards power lines and 84 th Ave W. If the tree fell it would hit power
and cable lines, cross 84 th Ave W and possibly reach the property located directly across the street. As
the tree in question is on private property, the responsibility for assessing the stability of the tree lies with
the property owner. The City would like to encourage you to have a professional assess the tree as soon
as possible to ensure that it is not an imminent danger to the public.
Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding this matter.
