Good Evening Leif,
In addition to having the permit and approved plans on site I have attached Fire Marshall,
John Westfall's letter which outlines the International and Edmonds Community
Development Codes. Also Mr. Sharawy wants to assure you that when mechanical work
is being performed the doors are always open. Under no circumstances will engines be
run inside the building, only to enter and leave the building.
I will be available for the inspection any time tomorrow afternoon. If you or Pat would e-
mail me with an approximate time it would be much appreciated.
Thank You
Steve Gray

Subject: RE: Garage North Wall (Kero's)
Steve, In response to your proposal to revise the construction of the fire rated north wall (item #1 of your attached
letter), I am approving it under the alternate methods and materials section 104.11 of the IBC. I am approving
item #2 as well, which will delete the need for mechanical ventilation in the garage bays as shown on the
approved plans. Under the exception you referenced from the mechanical code, as long as there are no motors
running in the building except for moving the cars in and out, this code provision applies. Please take note that the
allowed use of the garage under the building pen -nit is for cleaning and detailing purposes only, and that no engine
repairs, painting or the like will be permitted.
Our city building inspector Patrick Lawler met on site with Eddie this morning and approved the exterior drywall,
and it looks like the north wall will be completely sided by today or tomorrow. Patrick has coordinated with our
Fire inspector to perform a final inspection of the project tomorrow afternoon to verify all of the permit work is
complete. Please make sure your building permit and approved plans are on site for the inspection. In the case that
the inspection reveals any code deficiencies, these will be noted and corrections will need to be addressed in short
order, at the discretion of the building inspector.
Please contact Patrick or me if you have any questions. Thank you,
Leif Bjorback

Steve,
Thank you for the update. I am glad to hear of the progress being made. I am out of the office myself
with a minor medical procedure this week but plan to return Friday. If for some reason I am
unavailable, our building inspector Patrick can certainly meet with you, as he is also familiar with the
project. I will have him put the drywall inspection on the schedule for Friday unless you would like it
sooner. Let us know. Thanks again,
Leif

Dear Mr. Gray:
LAURA M. HALL
MAYOR
Regarding our phone conversation on July 21, 1 wish to reiterate the points we had
discussed:
I've enclosed Fire Permit application. I had mistaken the 1994 permit record for this years.
Please date, sign and return the application, with a check for $5 written to "City. of
Edmonds". The Fire Department will then send you the Fire Permit.
Appropriate signage must be Visible from all pumps regarding; no smoking; prohibiting
dispensing in unapproved containers; and stopping the vehicle engine prior to pumping
(Uniform Fire Code UFC 5201.8).
Locally practiced Fire Department standards require that you remove all "latch -open"
devices from the pump nozzles.
I ask if you would provide a more legible sign for the "Emergency Shut-off " switch.
A minimum 2A:20B:C rated fire extinguisher is required within 75' of the pumps (UFC
5201.1 Exception 4.). Byblous has provided a 4013:C rated extinguisher for flammable
liquids. I ask that they also mount and maintain a 2A:10B:C (five pound dry chemical) to
provide for fire situations within the store.
Thank you for your assistance and feel free to call me at (206) 771-0215 ext. 301 if you
have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
John J Westfall
