Attached are copies of test reports generated during the course of this project. Prior to backfilling, a sample of Type 17 mineral aggregate from Glacier Sand and Gravel was provided to HWA for Laboratory Compaction Characteristics testing (ASTM D 1557, Modified Proctor) and grain size distribution testing (ASTM C 136), as detailed on the attached reports, Figures I and 2. The submitted material is considered suitable for use as structural backfill based on the low fines content and well -graded particle distribution. During backfilling, intermittent site visits were made by WA inspectors to monitor the progress of the material placement and compaction. The backfill was placed in approximately 6" thick lifts and compacted to a minimum of 95% of Modified Proctor in accordance with our recommendations, as confirmed by field observations and field density testing (see attached Daily Field Reports). . At the time of our visit the contractor had jack - hammered the concrete slab in the base of the pool into rubble, to allow for bottom drainage. The interstitial voids tithin the concrete rubble layer were filled in using clean sand that was sluiced into place with a garden hose. Sufficient and was placed to provide a level surface for placement and compaction for placement and compaction of the Type-17 mineral aggregate. An initial 8" thick lift of Type 17 aggregate was in place in the deep end of the pool and was being Rompacted using a Bomag EY27-2B 'Robin' double -drum roller with vibration. Based on our observations, the ontractors methodology is in accordance with our verbal recommendations. The pea gravel was being compacted using the Yibratory roller to consolidate each lift. The material was probed with a steel probe and found to be dense, firm and Flayielding.
