These pat- zerns are typically used to differentiate be- tween ;alert" and "evacuate" conditions. They can also be used as auxiliary signals, such as tornado warnings. Up to seven (7) remote operator control pan- els can be connected to a TFX-400 panel. These remote panels can be configured to du- plicate the LED and LCD displays, and control switch functions. Model 5104 Fire Control Communicator The Silent Knight Model 5104 is a four -zone fire control communicator providing digital fire reporting over ordinary telephone lines, eliminating the need for costly leased lines. It's UL 864 and NFPA 72 approved for monitoring local evacuation controls. As a stand-alone unit, it can be used to monitor: • Sprinkler systems for waterflow, supervisory, and gate valve tamper conditions. • Automatic fire detection systems for structures that are not required to have a fire alarm system but want property protection (e.g. to call the fire department after hours). • Dry contact alarms, trouble and supervisory outputs, then transmits a separate code for each. The Model 5104 is fully supervised. Its microprocessor constantly runs programs to monitor AC, standby battery, zone inputs and telephone line connections. If one of the telephone lines faults for more than 45 seconds, it will automatically switch to the other to report the failure. Recessed Mounted General Information The THORN 4050 manual fire alarm stations are designed for easy operation in fire emergency situations. The station is activated simply by pulling down on the actuating handle. If desired, an optional break -away plastic shield may be installed to guard against accidental operation, When a station is activated, it mechanically locks into position to provide a positive indication of operation. Reset is accom- plished by loosening the retaining screw in the faceplate, opening the station, and resetting the switch. A pre -signal version is available which sounds pre -signaling devices when operated. General alarm signals are sounded by operating a key switch on the station. Each module reports an input from any contact device in its zone as a single address to the ALITOCALL TFX-500 and ALITOCALL TFX-800 systems. Each contact monitor module uses one of 126 available addresses on an ALITOCALL TFX signaling circuit. It responds to regular polls from the control panel and reports its type and the status of its initiating circuit. The LED latches steady on alarm. Ni Q� Xpert Card Description, The 550 series smoke detectors continu- ously measure smoke density and report this measurement as an analog value to the AUTOCALL TFX series control panel. The. AUTOCALL TFX panel uses software algorithms to analyze the transmitted value for pre -alarm, alarm, trouble, or service conditions. The AUTOCALL TFX panel maintains a moving average of each 550 detector's trans- mitted analog values. This average is used as the long term "background" level of airborne particles and/or contaminants against which the current analog value is compared. This ensures that the detector's sensitivity re- mains constant over time . If the detector's moving average value exceeds a preset threshold, a trouble signal is annunciated at the AUTOCALL TFX series panel. This signal alerts the operator that the detector requires cleaning and/or maintenance to prevent un- wanted alarms. Prior to an actual alarm condition, the AUTOCALL TFX panel will report a lower threshold pre -alarm condition. This is a trouble condition which alerts the operator to a pending alarm. The address of a 550 series detector is set in the base by means of an Xpert Card, which slides into a slot at the side of the detector base. The detector address is printed on the Xpert Card, and is visible from the floor. It is not necessary to ascend a ladder, remove the detector from its base, or to read a set of coded switches to determine the detector's address. Detector heads may be removed and replaced without system reprogramming. Detector Design The ISN-5501 and ISN-550P detectors have a molded white polycarbonate case, UL 94 V-0 grade. Nickel -plated stainless steel wiper contacts connect the detector to the terminals in the mounting base. ISN-5501 The AUTOCALL ISN-5501 is a dual cham- ber ionization -type smoke detector which will sense the presence of products of combus- tion, particularly those produced by fast, flaming fires. Inside the detector case is a printed circuit board which has the ionization chamber system mounted on one side and the signal processing electronics on the other. The outer smoke cham- ber has smoke inlet apertures which are fitted with an insect resistant mesh. A small radioactive source ionizes the air within both chambers. The ionization causes a small electrical current to flow. If smoke enters the chamber. current flow decreases. This effect is greater in the outer smoke chamber than in the inner reference chamber. The current imbalance between the two chamoers is a measurement of smoke density which is transmitted to the AUTOCALL TFX se- ries control panel upon interrogation. The twin chamber design provides good compensation for atmospheric pressure and temperature, and is insen- sitive to dust that may deposit on the radioactive source. ISN-550P The chamber of the ISN-550P photo- electric detector is an optical arrange- ment consisting of two main parts: an infrared LED and a photo diode light re- ceiver. The LED emits a burst of colli- mated light every 2 seconds. In clear air conditions, the photo diode will not re- ceive light from the LED due to its ar- rangement within the chamber. When smoke enters the chamber, it scatters light onto the photo diode, which is sensed by the detector's elec_ tronic circuitry. The intensity of light on the photo diode is a measurement of smoke density which is transmitted to the AUTOCALL TFX series control panel upon interrogation. To ensure maximum reliability, the LED emits light modulated at about 3KHz, and the photo diode will only reac t when receiving light at this frequency. Installation and Wiring The detector base mounts directly to a 3 1/2" octagonal or a 4" square electrical box using two (2) 8-32 screws. Refer to NIFPA 72 for spacing, location and other guidelines. Wiring connections to the terminals in the detector base are nonpolarized and are such that a missing detector head will interrupt the control panel's initiating circuit, causing a trouble condition at the control panel. Testing Annual functional tests may be per- formed using the IA-MED Smoke Detec- tor Test Pole and IA-MTA Aerosol Test Gas. Detectors may be removed and installed from the floor using the IA -MET Extract Tool. Specifications Maintenance It is recommended that at least once per year. the detector head should be cleaned by usingthe suction from a vacuum cleaner. Cleaning may be re- quired more frequently if the detector's environment contains sources of dust and dirt. The detector's cover is easily removed in order to vacuum clean around the de- tection chamber screen.
