FOUR (4) BURNER RANGE PROTECTION
TWO (2) FLOW POINT NOZZLE (PIN 14178)
The Amerex 4 burner range nozzle (PIN 14178) has two (2) flow points
and will protect a range surface area of ' 24" x 24" (61 x 61 cm). The center
to center distance between burners must not exceed 12 inches. The
nozzle must be located 18 — 50" (46 — 127 cm) above the range surface
and centered b4een the burners. The nozzle is aimed straight down at
the center of the appliance.
NOTE: Maximum and minimum
heights must be measured from
the Up of nozzle to the surface of
the appliance.
RANGE PROTECTION —MULTIPLE NOZZLES (PIN
14178)
For ranges that have a surface area exceeding the
capabilities of a single nozzle, multiple nozzles must be
used provided that the surface area of the range is
divided into equally sized modules. Each module must
be equal to or less than 24" x 24" (61 x 61 cm).
NOTE: When using this nozzle to protect a two
(2) burner range the aiming point is where an
8.50" radius from the center of each burner
crosses one another
WOK PROTECTION
SINGLE FLOW POINT NOZZLE (PIN 11982)
The Amerex appliance plenum nozzle (PIN 11982)
has one flow point and will protect a wok with
dimensions between a minimum diameter of 14",(36
cm) and a maximum diameter of 24" (61 cm)
inclusive. The wok must have a height dimension
between a minimum of 4" (10 cm) and a maximum of
7" (18 cm) inclusive. The nozzle must be centered
over the center of the wok and located at a height
between 40 " (102 cm) and 50" (127 cm) from the
bottom of the inside of the wok and aimed at the
center of the wok.

properly position the nozzles, a rectangular duct should be divided
along its longest side into four equal distances. A circular. duct
should be divided along its center line into four equal distances. The
nozzles are to be placed at one quarter and three quarters position
of the duct width (or diameter) with both nozzles on the center One,
placed 2 - 8 inches (5.08 — 20.3 cm) into the duct opening and aimed
straight up in a vertically run duct.

General Inforination
The AUTOCALL TFX-400 is a self-
contained, small addressAble panel
in a single cabinet. The AUTOCALL
TFX-400 includes two (2) analog,
addressable signaling line circuits
that provide 99 points each.
The AUTOCALL TFX-400 uses
proven technology, used in the
TFX-500M and TFX-800M fire
alarm and detection systems. The
AUTOCALL TFX-400 control is
designed to be used with conven-
tionai or analog, addressable fire
detection devices, in any combi-
nation. As a stand-alone panel,
the AUTOCALL TFX-400 meets
the needs of any small -to -mid
size building or building complex: networking
capability allows the TFX-400 to be used in larger
buildings or building complexes.
Description
AUTOCALL TFX panels provide flexible op-
erator displays including a backlit LCD and
field configurable LED annunciators. The LED
annunciators provide quick identification of fire,
trouble, and supervisory events by zone,
group, or device, while the LCD ' provides user
defined text to describe the event type and its
precise location.
When used with Grinnell's 550 series analog
smoke sensors, the AUTOCALL TFX panels
provide continuous detector sensitivity monitor-
ing and automatically compensate for environ-
mental influences. Alarm and pre -alarm thresn-
old smoke levels can be defined per device
and can be automatically or manually switched
between muitiple sensitivities based on the
time -of -day, aay-of-week, or date.
Our exclusive CONSYS software configura-
tion tool for site specific user programming
easily guides the trained installer through a
menu Prompted decision process.
Auto -configuration allows one or both loops,
or one point at a time to be configured quickly
and automatically, without using a personal
computer. Automatic assignment of zone num-
bers and device description text can be viewed
for each auto -configured device. The operator
display module allows:
• Adding or removing any device on either ad-
dressable loop
• Manual configuration of any device type to any
group or to any zone
Up to 1600 discrete contact inputs and voltage
outputs in any combination, can be configured into
the TFX system. These are typically used for audio
evacuation and HVAC: control switches, and annun-
ciation LEDs at the main (or remote) control panel.
New and existing circuits of conventional 2-wire or
4-wire smoke detectors can be completely super-
vised by the AUTOCALL TFX-400. The conventional
circuits are interfaced by using Addressable Detec-
tor Monitor Modules (IXA-50ODMA) which can be
placed anywhere on an analog, addressable com-
munications loop.
The AUTOCALL TFX offers a UL Listed alarm
verification feature for use with connected cir-
cuits of conventional smoke detection (IXA-
50ODMA) or any 900 series or 550 series ana-
log, addressable smoke or heat detector.
The AUTOCALL TFX system logs all alarm,
trouble and supervisory events into electronic
memory with the time and date of occurrence.
These events can be displayed on the LCD,
or printed.
Coincidence alarm grouping (cross -zoning)
relates multiple device actuations before con-
firmation of an "alarm" occurs. The user can
select the number of successive device ac-
tuations (2, 3, or 4) required to trigger an out-
put response.

TFX-400 Fire Alarm Control Panel
The user can define different coded patterns
to audible and visual signal circuits. These pat-
zerns are typically used to differentiate be-
tween ;alert" and "evacuate" conditions. They
can also be used as auxiliary signals, such as
tornado warnings.
Up to seven (7) remote operator control pan-
els can be connected to a TFX-400 panel.
These remote panels can be configured to du-
plicate the LED and LCD displays, and control
switch functions.
Full remote operation of any AUTOCALL TFX
control panel connected to the optional
AUTOCALL TFXnet network is available from
the TFX-400. A Virtual Front Panel (VFP) allows
the operator to use the LCD and keypad of the
TFX-400 as if they were standing at any other
AUTOCALL TFX control unit. Once the other
control unit is selected, the TFX-400 LCD
shows the status of the other control unit and
its attached circuits and devices.
Operations (such as isolating devices) be-
come much easier with the optional networking
capability of the graphical user interface for fire
alarm annunciation and control.

Model 5104
Fire Control Communicator
The Silent Knight Model 5104 is a
four -zone fire control communicator
providing digital fire reporting over
ordinary telephone lines, eliminating the
need for costly leased lines. It's UL 864
and NFPA 72 approved for monitoring
local evacuation controls.
As a stand-alone unit, it can be used
to monitor:
• Sprinkler systems for waterflow,
supervisory, and gate valve tamper
conditions.
• Automatic fire detection systems for
structures that are not required to
have a fire alarm system but want
property protection (e.g. to call the fire
department after hours).
• Dry contact alarms, trouble and
supervisory outputs, then transmits
a separate code for each.
The Model 5104 is fully supervised.
Its microprocessor constantly runs
programs to monitor AC, standby
battery, zone inputs and telephone line
connections. If a fault condition is
detected, it sounds a local trouble
audible and reports the condition to the
central station. If one of the telephone
lines faults for more than 45 seconds, it
will automatically switch to the other to
report the failure.
The communicator will signal activation,
restoration and trouble conditions on
any of four inputs. If an application
requires a different input configuration,
the individual input styles may be
changed by using a Model 7181 Fire
Zone Converter Module. The 7181 also
allows use of two -wire type smoke
detectors, instead of the normal four -
wire contact type, for automatic fire
detection applications.

ARCHITECT/ENGINEER
SPECIFICATIONS
The contractor shall provide an
approved digital communicator to trans-
mit the fire alarm and supervisory and
trouble signals to a central station. The
digital communicator shall be UL or FIVI
listed for fire reporting to a central sta-
tion and shall conform to the require-
ments of NFPA 72.
The digital communicator shall provide
power and necessary components for
four supervised detection circuits. One
shall be Style D and three shall be
Style A. The detection circuits shall
accommodate sprinkler flow switches,
gate valve supervisory switches,
thermal detectors and contact -type
smoke detectors intermixed as desired
and permitted by NFPA 72.

KNIGHT
The control/communicator shall have
the capability to supervise two
telephone lines, seize the phone line
and send the alarm signal on one or
both lines without the addition of any
more equipment. It shall sound a local
trouble signal if the telephone service is
interrupted for longer than 45 seconds
and it shall transmit a signal indicating
the loss of phone line service to the
central station over the remaining
phone line. A signal shall also be trans-
mitted to indicate the restoral of phone
service. The control/communicator shall
be able to report the loss of either
phone line without regard to which
phone line failed first. If both lines fail,
a local signal shall sound.
The control/communicator shall have
the ability to send a test signal to the
central station every 24 hours. The test
signal shall be able to be transmitted at
a specific time of day or night by
setting a program within the panel.

a secondary power supply utilizing
rechargeable batteries. The secondary
supply shall be capable of supplying
power, under maximum normal load,
for 24 hours for central station or
proprietary applications or 60 hours for
remote supervising station system
application in accordance with NFPA 72.
The communicator shall be able to
transmit all signals in the Standard SIA
format (Security Industry Association).
The alarm signals transmitted to the
central station shall indicate which of
the four zones is in alarm and which
zones are in trouble. Restoral from
alarm or trouble shall be capable of
communicating to Silent Knight,
Radionics or Ademco central
station receivers.

General Information
The THORN 4050 manual fire alarm stations
are designed for easy operation in fire
emergency situations. The station is activated
simply by pulling down on the actuating
handle. If desired, an optional break -away
plastic shield may be installed to guard
against accidental operation,
When a station is activated, it mechanically
locks into position to provide a positive
indication of operation. Reset is accom-
plished by loosening the retaining screw in
the faceplate, opening the station, and
resetting the switch.
A pre -signal version is available which
sounds pre -signaling devices when operated.
General alarm signals are sounded by
operating a key switch on the station. This
type of station may only be used on pre -
signaling type systems.

Surface Mounted
The station provides one normally open
contact which closes on alarm. An additional
contact is provided on pre -signal type
stations to activate pre -signals. 4050 Manual
Stations may be used on any alarm initiating
circuit which requires a contact closure for
activation.
The 4050 manual station is finished in
black with a red faceplate and raised
lettering. A red finish is available on special
order.
The station may be surface mounted to a
backbox or semi -flush mounted to a standard
4" square x 2 1/8' deeI5 box fitted with a
plaster ring.

D) and IXA-501CM (mini module) provide an
initiating zone suitable for contact devices
such as 4-wire smoke detectors, pull stations,
waterf low- switches and sprinkler supervisory
devices. Each module reports an input from
any contact device in its zone as a single
address to the ALITOCALL TFX-500 and
ALITOCALL TFX-800 systems.
Each contact monitor module uses one of
126 available addresses on an ALITOCALL
TFX signaling circuit. It responds to regular
polls from the control panel and reports its
type and the status of its initiating circuit. The
LED latches steady on alarm.
IXA-500CMA
The IXA-500CMA provides a Style B or D
initiating circuit and mounts on a standard
2-gang electrical box. An attractive plastic
cover with eggshell finish is included. An LED
which is visible through the plastic cover
illuminates steady during alarm.
IXA-501CM
The IXA-501CM mini module provides a
Style B initiating circuit. Its compact size
makes it ideal for "stuffing" in a standard
electrical box behind the monitored contact
device, such as a pull station.
These modules may be programmed to
monitor normally open or normally closed
contact devices, and to report inputs as
either alarm or supervisory conditions.
Another programming option invokes a
special polling interrupt routine, resulting in
quicker alarm response than systems which
rely on simple polling techniques to detect an
alarm.

with the AUTOCALL TFX series
systems. Surface mounted

Xpert Card
Description,
The 550 series smoke detectors continu-
ously measure smoke density and report this
measurement as an analog value to the
AUTOCALL TFX series control panel. The.
AUTOCALL TFX panel uses software algorithms
to analyze the transmitted value for pre -alarm,
alarm, trouble, or service conditions.
The AUTOCALL TFX panel maintains a
moving average of each 550 detector's trans-
mitted analog values. This average is used as
the long term "background" level of airborne
particles and/or contaminants against which
the current analog value is compared. This
ensures that the detector's sensitivity re-
mains constant over time . If the detector's
moving average value exceeds a preset
threshold, a trouble signal is annunciated at
the AUTOCALL TFX series panel. This signal
alerts the operator that the detector requires
cleaning and/or maintenance to prevent un-
wanted alarms.
Prior to an actual alarm condition, the
AUTOCALL TFX panel will report a lower
threshold pre -alarm condition. This is a
trouble condition which alerts the operator to
a pending alarm.
The address of a 550 series detector is set
in the base by means of an Xpert Card, which
slides into a slot at the side of the detector
base. The detector address is printed on the
Xpert Card, and is visible from the floor. It is
not necessary to ascend a ladder, remove
the detector from its base, or to read a set of
coded switches to determine the detector's
address. Detector heads may be removed
and replaced without system reprogramming.

nance functions may be performed from the
floor, which reduces service and routine
maintenance costs. See catalog page 261
for more information on detector accessories.
Six inch detector bases are available. A
separate terminal on the detector provides a
voltage output for connection to a remote
LED. Wiring connections are nonpolarized
for ease of installation, unless the remote
LED output is used.
Detector Design
The ISN-5501 and ISN-550P detectors have
a molded white polycarbonate case, UL
94 V-0 grade. Nickel -plated stainless steel
wiper contacts connect the detector to the
terminals in the mounting base.
ISN-5501
The AUTOCALL ISN-5501 is a dual cham-
ber ionization -type smoke detector which will
sense the presence of products of combus-
tion, particularly those produced by fast,
flaming fires. Inside the detector case is a
printed circuit board which has the ionization
chamber system mounted on one side and
the signal processing electronics on the other.

SMOKE DETECTOR
The detector utilizes a dual ionization
chamber design, which consists of an
inner reference chamber and an outer
smoke chamber. The outer smoke cham-
ber has smoke inlet apertures which are
fitted with an insect resistant mesh. A
small radioactive source ionizes the air
within both chambers. The ionization
causes a small electrical current to flow.
If smoke enters the chamber. current
flow decreases. This effect is greater in
the outer smoke chamber than in the
inner reference chamber. The current
imbalance between the two chamoers is
a measurement of smoke density which
is transmitted to the AUTOCALL TFX se-
ries control panel upon interrogation.
The twin chamber design provides
good compensation for atmospheric
pressure and temperature, and is insen-
sitive to dust that may deposit on the
radioactive source.
ISN-550P
The chamber of the ISN-550P photo-
electric detector is an optical arrange-
ment consisting of two main parts: an
infrared LED and a photo diode light re-
ceiver. The LED emits a burst of colli-
mated light every 2 seconds. In clear air
conditions, the photo diode will not re-
ceive light from the LED due to its ar-
rangement within the chamber.
When smoke enters the chamber, it
scatters light onto the photo diode,
which is sensed by the detector's elec_
tronic circuitry. The intensity of light on
the photo diode is a measurement of
smoke density which is transmitted to
the AUTOCALL TFX series control panel
upon interrogation.
To ensure maximum reliability, the
LED emits light modulated at about 3KHz,
and the photo diode will only reac t when
receiving light at this frequency.
Installation and Wiring
The detector base mounts directly to a
3 1/2" octagonal or a 4" square electrical
box using two (2) 8-32 screws. Refer to
NIFPA 72 for spacing, location and other
guidelines.
Wiring connections to the terminals in
the detector base are nonpolarized and
are such that a missing detector head
will interrupt the control panel's initiating
circuit, causing a trouble condition at the
control panel.
Testing
Annual functional tests may be per-
formed using the IA-MED Smoke Detec-
tor Test Pole and IA-MTA Aerosol Test
Gas. Detectors may be removed and
installed from the floor using the IA -MET
Extract Tool.
Specifications
Maintenance
It is recommended that at least once
per year. the detector head should be
cleaned by usingthe suction from a
vacuum cleaner. Cleaning may be re-
quired more frequently if the detector's
environment contains sources of dust
and dirt.
The detector's cover is easily removed
in order to vacuum clean around the de-
tection chamber screen.
