Subject: PUBLIC AMUSEMENT LICENSE: RED BARN SALE
The Youth Services Division of the Edmonds Police Department is
holding a non-profit garage sale at the Red Barn. This structure is
generally used for storage, is aboutl200 square feet and is fully
sprinklered.
The PAL for the Red Barn Sale on August 26th and 27' is approved with
the following conditions:
1) Occupant load is 49 maximum
2) The 10 foot sliding door shall remain completely open during the sale
hours
3) Exits and aisles must be kept clear of obstructions..
4) Hours of operation will be limited to those proposed (0900 to 1700
hrs) for both days
5) No Smoking is allowed and must be posted in the sale area.
6) Provide a fire watch (someone with a phone who can dial 911 should
an emergency arise).
7) A representative from the Edmonds Fire Dept. will inspect conditions
prior to the event. Upon approval, a permit will be issued for the
event.

An event in a storage occupancy has been planned for an art gallery. The "Red Barn" is
a structure used for storage of lumber and is fully sprinklered. The gallery will operate at
the 5 Ih Avenue end of an approximately 1200 sq. ft space. A gallery attendant will be
present at all times when the public is allowed to view the artwork. Single access exit
does limit the direction of escape from a fire problem, however the structure is
sprinklered throughout and will also respond if required to stop a fire if it should start.
The automatic sprinkler system has been provided an annual system test within the last
year. The building is a hybrid III-NN-N fully sprinklered facility.
I approve the Public Amusement License for "Red Barn Gallery" for 30 days from the
date of issue with the following conditions:
1 . Occupant load is 49 maximum and is posted.
2. The 10'side-sliding door shall remain fully open for duration of occupancy overage
to accommodate exhibition activities.
3. Obstructions shall remain clear of the exit.
4. Hours of operation are limited to the business hours of Edmonds Lumber and
Hardware store.
5. A fire watch is provided. This person does not require any firefighting expertise, but
must be d i rectly 'attentive to fire problems and have access to a telephone to dial 9'-
1-1 immediately if a problem should arise. The gallery attendant may be utilized in
this capacity.
6. No smoking is allowed and this must be posted conspicuously w*ithin viewing area.
7. 1 will inspect the building and activity for these license requirements. Upon approval,
the City Clerk will issue a license to you for the public amusement.
The license and approval of this "temporary usage" will expire following' 30 days from
date of issue. Mr. Davis will evaluate the success of the gallery venture at that time to
determine if this, or similar uses for the structure will warrant the a proposal, installation
and approval of building upgrades to accommodate a permanent change to the nature
of the red barn usage.
