Dear Nan Huang,
The City has received a complaint regarding separate bedrooms being rented at the subject property, in effect creating
a roomingfboarding house. Rooming/Boarding houses are not permitted in the single family zone. You, as property
owner can share your home with roommates if you live at the property. Or, you can rent the house as a complete unit.
However, you cannot rent individual bedrooms to individual people as the enclosed advertisement indicates.
The complaint also notes that there is construction going on at the property. If you are doing construction that is not
exempt you are advised to stop work and apply for a permit immediately. The City Building Inspector may stop by to
review the current construction. Penalty fees can be assessed for construction conducted without the proper permits. If
you are not sure whether a permit is required, you are advised to inquire at the Development Services Department at
City Hall.
Corrective actions required:
Please contact me at your earliest convenience by June 23, 2015 to respond to this letter and advise your
compliance plan, if necessary. If there is no response, an Order to Correct would be issued and posted.
0 Compliance would be providing written evidence that conclusively demonstrates that the subject
property meets current zoning code.
If the construction being conducted is not exempt please stop work and make a complete remodel application
by July 6, 2015.
The enclosed Work Exempt handout notes the type of construction work that is exempt from permit requirements.
