I did try telephoning you. You are correct that at one time the City proposed removing the laurel bushes in order to construct a drainage swell adjacent to an existing pipeline. This was unacceptable by the previous owner. An agreement was reached that the City would construct a fence and trim the laurel hedge in lieu of a swell. No new pipeline was installed. The City paid for these costs. The City has an easement on the property, but does not own any of the property. Since we already incurred a cost in leaving the laurel hedge, it would be very difficult to justify to the City Council to now spend funds to remove the hedge. I am sorry we would not be able to help you in that effort. I will have Noel Miller, Public Works Superintendent stop by to look at the trimmings you have left in your front yard. ;oel can determine if the City can help in your effort to dispose of these trimmings. We learnedt a few months after we moved into the house, that the City of Edmonds had offered to remove the laurel shrubs which are in the.easement next to our house where the drainage pipes are located. As I understand the situation, the city made the offer to remove the laurels in order to get easier access for placing the drainage pipes, but that Dr. & Mrs. Holtz did not want the laurels removed. The city then trimmed the laurels to about 6 or 7 feet in height, placed the drain pipes in the easement, and constructed a fence between our property and the Sawyers. Since then, the laurel trunks above the ground died and remained unsightly. I sawed off the trunks above the ground and stacked them in my front yard. I am writing you this letter to inquire whether or not the laurel shrubs are in the city's property and secondly, to ask if the city would remove the limbs that are piled in my front yard. I am also concerned that in attempting to remove the stumps below the ground, I may damage the drainage pipes which are located below and alongside the laurels. Would the city consider removing the laurel stumps from the easement?
