SUaJE6T: POPLAR TREES ON 242ND AND 77TH PL. W.
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Ma rshall:
LARRY S. NAUGHTEN
MAYOR
PETER E. HAHN
. DIRECTOR
This is to inform you that I did receive your letter and have
started work on your request to look at the trees along your property
line. I have met with Marilyn and the insurance caTpany to discuss
the.,trees. The ordinance we have only addresses trees which cause a
sight problem, are diseased or dead or are interfering with the storm
and sewage system. Since none of these situations exist this is
classified as a special case and must be presented before the Council
and approved before any trees can be removed.
These trees were there when you purchased the property, they were
not planted by the City. Would you be willing to help with the expense
of removing these trees? I will be getting together a cost estimate
for removal of these trees and having the stumps cut below the ground.
If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me
at 771-3202, extension 296.
Sincerely,
BOBBY R. MILLS

Re: Survey of Poplar Trees on Private Property
Dear Bobby:
rLGL IV ED
PUBW WORKS
After viewing the poplar tre"e exposure on the private
residential property between 242nd Street and 77th Street, I
discussed with Lew the hazardous nature of this liability
exposure as well as the alternatives for remedying the
situation. Our conclusion is as follows:
The trees are definitely causing various problems that
can only lead to potential accident and property 'damage
claims. There is physical evidence of root exposure
throughout the entire yard area, as well as new sprouts in
the garden area near the front entrance. In addition, the
residents of this property have encountered periodic sewer
line plugging which, when cleaned out, has produced leaves
and'other tree material.
Based on the exposures present at this time, and the
alternatives available, we recommend the trees be ' removed
from the premises and roots elminated to discourage further
growth of these trees.
Sincerely,
Patti H. Canaday
