I have visited the site at the comer of 242 d Street SW and 76'h Avenue West. I also drove a few blocks up the hill on Meridian and noticed the striping. As a Traffic Engineer, I strongly believe in safety, especially the safety of our children. Based on the site observation, I do not believe that striping similar to that on Meridian is a solution. The sidewalk on 76 1h Avenue West is about ten (10) feet wide, while at Meridian the width is five (5) feet. My suggestion is that parents talk with their children and advise them to stay on the sidewalk instead of walking on the road. I am also aware that the traffic forms two lanes southbound from 242 "d Street SW. However, two lanes of traffic would not present a safety hazard for children remaining on the sidewalk. I met you during your campaign for the City Council position as you came through our neighborhood asking for support. I mentioned to you the issue of safety at the school bus stops on the comer of 242' and 76h . The elementary'children stand at that comer awaiting the school bus. The location is close to where the cars start to split into lanes and what happens, is that the cars start to double lane right in front of the bus stop. My concern is that the kids are . right there on that curb when these cars start to split into lanes. As you and I know, kids are not always paying attention and not always on the side walk. I am concerned about this hazard along with the support of other parents. couple of blocks up the hill on Meridian, I noticed. this summer that by a City bus stop, ,they put in sorpe striping that lets' -kii6-lWWh-e'r--e"-tlie—%y—s-h-o�"u'ld--n-o—t bk., It would be a great idea to do something likeftrAt' thi§-school bus stop, to let ihe cars know not to drive through that restricted striped area. I have enclosed snap shots to show the situation. Keep in mind that at that hour 8:07arn, the vehicles are usually racing to work and trying to make the light.
