Edmonds. Please provide us with the most'durrent test results for
each pump in your system.
If it is determined that leak detection is not provided in your
system, one will be required based on the following code section:
The Uniform Fire Code, 1985 Edition, Sections 79.904(e) re-
quires that "each pump shall have installed on the discharge an
approved leak -detection device which will provide an indication
if the piping and dispensers are not essentially liquid tight".

Heating Equipment
Sec. 79.906. (a) Electrical Equipment. Electrical heating equipment SW
conform to Section 79.905.
(b) Fuel -burning Equipment. Only wet heat systems and direct -fired makeq
air heaters are permitted in dispensing rooms or in any area where vapors couW
migrate. Such systems shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Mechn,
icatCode.
�Drainage.and_Waste.Dispqsal
Sec. 79.907. (a) Control and Connection to Sewer. Provisions shall be mak
in the area where Class 1, 11 or III -A liquids may be spilled to prevent liquids from
flowing into interior of service station buildings. Such provisions may be by
grading driveway, raising door sills, or other equally effective means. Crankcase
drainings and flammable or combustible liquids shall not be dumped into sc%cn
but shall be stored in tanks or tight drums outside of any building until remmed
from the premises.
(b) Crankcase Drainings. Tanks installed for crankcase drainin gs shall be
installed in accordance with the requirements for Class I liquid storage. Is
addition thereto, drainage lines terminating inside a building shall be equippcd
with a nonremovable-type cap (such as a hinged cap).
Fire Protection
Sec. 79.908. A fire extinguisher with a minimum classification of
2-A, 20-B:C shall be provided and so located that it will be not more than 75 fed
from any pump, dispenser or fill -pipe opening.
Swice Stations Located Inside Buildings
Sec. 79.909. (a) General. This section shall apply to automotive service
suLions which dispense fuels into vehicles in areas that are wholly or partially
coclosed by the walls, floors or ceilings of the buildings.
EXCEPTION: Service stations located inside a building with two or more sides
of the dispensing area open to the building exterior so that normal ventilation can
normally be expected to dissipate flammable vapors.
Dispensing of fuel into motor vehicles inside of buildings is permitted when
qproved by the chief.
(b) Construction. Automotive service stations within buildings shall be con-
muctcd with the requirements of the Building Code.
jc) Ventilation. 1. General. Heating and air-conditioning and ventilation
syuems shall comply with the Mechanical Code.
2. Interlocks on dispensers. When mechanical systems for ventilation are
imailled serving only the area where fuels are dispensed, the system shall operate
when the service station is open for business and shall be interlocked to dispens-
ag units so that fuel cannot be dispensed unless the ventilation system is in
qcration.
3. Exhaust system design. The exhaust system shall be designed to provide air
gavcnient across all portions of the dispensing floor area and to prevent the flow
-ea. Exhaust inlet ducts shall be not
ct flammable vapors beyond the dispensing ar
ku than 3 inches nor more than 12 inches above the floor. Exhaust ducts shall not
k located in floors or penetrate the floor of the dispensing area and shall
ascharge to a safe location outside the building.
(d) Piping. 1. General. Piping systems shall comply with the provisions of
Division V11.
2. Enclosure of vent piping. All fuel and flammable vapor piping inside
i buildings but outside the service station area shall be enclosed within a horizontal
at a vertical shaft used only for this piping. Vertical and horizonal shafts shall be
osaructed of materials having a fire -resistance rating of not less than two hours.
(c) Drainge Systems. 1. Control. Floors shall be liquid tight. Emergency
&ainage systems shall be provided to direct flammable or combustible liquid
lt&Uge and fire -protection water to a safe location. This may require curbs,
emppers or special drainage systems.
2. Connection to sewer. Emergency drainage systems, if connected to public
wevn or discharged into public waterways, shall be equipped with traps or

Sec. 79.910. (a) General. The general construction of marine service stations
AW be in accordance with the Building Code. The storage of Class 1, Il or 111-A
6*h at such location shall, except as otherwise provided in this section, be in
swordance with the provisions of this article.
Marine service stations shall not be located at a bulk plant unless separated by a
1k lIwe or similar barrier from the area in which bulk operations are conducted.

OIL BURNING
1-8 Special Venting Arrangements.
1-8.1 Type L Venting Systems.
1-8.1.1 Listed Type L venting systems maybe employed
with appliances listed as suitable for use with Type L
venting systems.
1-8.1.2 Type L venting systems shall be installed and
used in accordance with their listings and the manufac-
turer's instructions.
1-8.1.3 A Type L venting system shall be capable of
producing a draft not less than that for which the ap-
pliance(s) connected thereto is listed and as recommend-
ed by the manufacturer of the appliance.
1-8.1.4 The flue -gas exit of a Type L venting system
shall be at least 2 ft (0.6 m) above the highest point where
it passes through the roof of a building and At least 2 ft
(0.6 m) higher than any portion of a building within 10 ft
(3 m) of such Type L venting system.
1-8.2 Scaled Combustion System Appliances. Sealed
combustion system appliances shall be listed and installed
in accordance with their listing and the manufacturer's
instructions.
1-9 Electrical Wiring and Equipment.
1-9.1 Electrical wiring and equipment used in connec-
tion with oil -burning equipment shall be installed in acw
cordance with NFPA 70, National Electrical Codee.
1-9.2 Safety control circuits shall be two -wire, one side
grounded, having a nominal voltage not exceeding 150.
A safety control or protective device shall be connected so
as to interrupt the ungrounded conductor.
1-9.3 The control circuit shall be connected to a power
supply branch circuit fused at not more than the value
appropriate for the rating of any control or device in-
cluded in the circuit.
1-10 Fuel Oil.
1-10.1 The grade of fuel oil used in a burner shall be
that for which the burner is approved and as stipulated
by the manufacturer. Crankcase oil or any oil containing
gasoline shall not be used. For use of oil fuels other than
those defined herein, see 1-1.3.
Exception: When acceptable to the authority hazn*ng
ju : risdiction, oil burning equipment designed to bum
crankcase oil may be used in commercial or industrial oc-
cupancies. Such oil burning equipment shall be listedfor
use with crankcase oils and shall be installed in accord-
ance with the manufacturer's instructions and the terms
of their listing. (See Section 1-11.)
1-10.2 Where heavy oils are used, provision shall 'be
made for maintaining the oil at the proper. atomizing
temperature. Automatically operated burners requiring
the preheating of oil shall be arranged so that no oil can
be delivered for combustion until the oil is at a suitable
atomizing temperature.
1-10.3 Except as permitted in 1-1.3, no steam coil
operating at a pressure greater than 15 psig (103 kPa)
shall be installed in an oil tank. When a pressure reduc-
ing valve is used to limit the -steam pressure 15 psi (103
kPa) or less: (a) a relief valve set at not more than 5 psi
(34 kPa) above the normal pressure in the coil shall be
provided, and (b) provision shall be made to limit the
steam temperature to 250'F (121 OC). I
1-10.4 Hot water coils may be installed in oil tanks pro-
v . ided they are connected to.indirect heaters and provi-
sions are made to limit the water temperature to 2,50'F
(121 OC).
1-10.5 Electric heaters may be installed in oil tanks pro-
vided they are equipped with approved thermostats de-
signed to prevent the oil from exceeding its minimum
flash point.
1-10.6 When heaters are installed in an oil tank, provi-
sions shall be made to prevent the oil 'level in the tank
from dropping to a point which exposes the surface of the
heater.

1-1171—WITe—nstoring, handling, or burning crankcase
oils w ' hich may have flash points below 1000F (380C)
(Class I liquids as defined in NFPA 321, Basic Classifica-
tion of Flammable and Combustible Liquids) or which
may be heated above their flash points, attention must be
given to electrical installations in areas where flammable
vapors or gases may be present in the atmosphere.
Typical locations are burner areas, fuel -handling equip-
ment areas, fuel storage areas, pits, sumps, and low spots
where fuel leakage or vapors may accumulate. Article
500 of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, provides for
classifying such areas and defiries requirements for elec-
trical installations in the areas so classified.
1-11.2 Crankcase oil properties may vary considerably,
and light volatile materials may be released during
storage, handling, or upon heating. Because of this
characteristic, appropriate and adequate provisions shall
be made to safely handle, store and bum crankcase oil ' It
is desirable that flexibility be built into the facility to ac-
commodate the expected range of properties. Failure to
observe the necessary design, installation and operating
and maintenance procedures can result in fire, explosion,
or personal injury.
1-11.3 When a supply tank is used, provisions shall be
made to prevent stratification of fuel in the tank.
1-11.4 Adequate ventilation is essential in areas where'
oil leakage may occur, as at pumps, heaters, strainers and
burners, or where maintenance may be performed. Con-
fined fuel handling areas and burner sites shall be ade".
quately ventilated, and forced air ventilation used where'
necessary. Provisions to safely dispose of spills in these
areas are necessary.
1-11.5 Extensive treatment of this, subject is beyond the

THE PROCESS
The BT RECYCLER removes contaminating substances from used Paint Thinners, Enamel Reducers, Acetone, Alcohols,
Esters, Ketones, Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Chlorinated Solvents, and a wide variety of other solvents, renewing them
for reuse.
The BT RECYCLER operates on the double boiler system principle at atmospheric pressure. The dirty solvent is
indirectly heated by the thermal oil in the intermediate chamber to the point of, evaporation. When it reaches its
ebullition point, it evaporates, Waving contaminants in the tank. The evaporated clean distilled solvent is condensed
back to its original pure liquid state through an air cooling process, and then released through a stainless steel
condensing system into the clean solvent container. The clean solvent is cold and ready for immediate reuse.

I Tanks to store Motor Oil, Automatic Transmission Fluid and Waste Oil.
2,3,4 Products to be conveyed are f0B liquids and will not be used as a source of fuel. VES will
15 support all piping (steel & copper) at 6' intervals (horizontal) and 10" intervals (vertical).
6 Secondary containment to be fabricated out of I V X 4" steel angle iron secured with 3f 8" X
4" cement anchors and seated in Silkaflex industrial grade sealant. Largest tank is 500
gallons, 2 sptinkler heads @ 14 gal/inin — 28 gal/iiiin'X 20 min — 560 gallons for a total of
1160 (155. l.cu ft) area of containment is 234" X 115" X 10" = 156 cu ft (1165 gallons)
7 Per Article 79 Section 7902.1.11.4 EB liquids can be vented to atmosphere.
8 T2 — WO tank the fluid from the crankcase will be gravity drained into 16 gallon receiver, the
fluid from receiver will be pumped into T2 all fluids removed from T2 will be done at tank
inside the containment area by a IATO recovery company.
9 Openings for fill for TI & T3 are at tank and. will be identified by a fill cap. Filling of tanks
will be done at tank inside the containment area.
10 SI uses a 105 decibel alann which will be mounted in service repair area and will be activated
at 90% of tank capacity.

4 Mount dispense reels with normally closed metered valves onto owner provide floor
mounted steel reel rack. (R I)
5 Connect all piping to reels and pumps with isolation ball valves and flex hose connector.
6 Install overfill tank sentry to WO tank. (S I)
7 Label all tanks and piping per IFC/UFC.
9 Purge and test systems at 150% working capacity.

Regarding vents — Open -or free- vents provide
means for a tank to vent and/or relieve pressure
(breathe) continually. Typically these 'open' type vents
are used on smaller tanks or when the product being
stored in the lank 6 diesel.
A pressure/vacuum vent allows a tank to breathe
during filling/dispensing operations, but poppets seal
vapors inside the tank when pressure has equalized.

TIM-370-A - Waste oil tank overfill alarm and pump shutoff assembly. Air -operated high level device
shuts off the flow of air to the pump. Air whistle sounds at the same time the pump shuts off. Unit
incorporates a pre-waming feature which provides a red visual indicator before the unit shuts off. This
feature gives the user advanced warning to call his waste oil hauler before the holding tank is full. No
electrical wiring is necessary. Air inlet and outlet is 1/4" NPT(F). Use L-26221-110 lubricator on the air
inlet side of this unit (order separately).
TIM4672 - Waste oil evacuation wand kit. For suction of oil directly from the dipstick port. Used in
conjuction with a diaphragm pump oil evacuation system. (Order separately.) Includes two flexible wand

Series 300OSS Double Check Detector Assemblies are designed for use in accor-
dance with water utility non -health hazard containment requirements. It is manda-
tory to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection system substances, i.e., glycerin
wetting agents, stagnant water and water of non -potable quality from being
pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply.
Specifications
A Double Check Detector Assembly shall be installed on fire protection systems
when connected to a potable water supply. Degree of hazard present is determined
by the local authority having jurisdiction. The main valve body shall be manufac-
tured from 300 Series stainless steel to provide corrosion resistance, 100% lead
free through the waterway. The double check detector assembly consists of two
independently operating, spring loaded check valves, two LIL, FM, OSY resilient
seated gate valves, and bypass assembly. The bypass assembly consists of a
meter (cubic ft. or gallons), a double check including shutoff valves and required
test cocks. Each cam -check shall be internally loaded and provide a positive drip
tight closure against reverse flow. Cam -check includes a stainless steel cam arm
and spring, rubber faced disc and a replaceable seat. There shall be no brass or
bronze parts used within the cam -check valve assembly. The check valve seats
shall be of molded thermoplastic construction. The use of seat screws as a
retention method is prohibited. All internal parts shall be accessible through a
single cover on the valve assembly. The valve cover shall be held in place through
the use of a single grooved style two -bolt coupling. The bypass line shall be
hydraulically sized to accurately measure low flow. The bypass line shall co * nsist of
a meter, a small diameter double check assembly with test cocks and isolation
valves. The bypass line double check valve shall have a single acces ' s cover, two
independently operating modular poppet check valves, and top mounted test
cocks. The assembly shall be an Ames 300OSS.

Ductile iron is a re.mark'able"e"n"gineering m�Aerial that has replaced gray (ca t) iron 26
its strength and duftillty� Ductile iron is produced by treating low -sulfur molten iron of
proper, chemical composition, with magnesium. The reactio6with magnesium allows. the
excess carbon (graphite) present in the iron to form as round nodules or spheres as shown
in the electron photomicrograph (right). The nodular graphite, along with the proper
heat treatment, allows ductile iron to have strength characteristics similar to mild steel
including excellent tensile strength, impact resistance, and beam strength. These proper-
ties along with ductile iror�s inherent corrosion resistance make It the material of choice
for water and wastewater applications.

Impact Resistance
Ductile iron pipe has the impact resistance to withstand damage caused by improper han-

The strength and elastic properties of ductile iron pipe provide excellent bursting strength
for high pressure applications. Ductile iron pipe has the added safety to protect against water

Beam Strength
The inherent ductility and strength characteristics of ductile iron
pipe allows it to bend considerably prior to failure, The superior
strength and toughness of ductile iron provides a greater margin
of safety against service failures due to ground movement and
beam loading. These properties provide unique advantages when
using ductile iron pipe for applications such as long -span installa-
tions on piers or supports.

Corrosion Resistance
Many water utilities in the United States have underground gray iron installations that have served for over a century with
some exceeding 150 years. Extensive testing has shown that ductile iron pipe has equal or greater corrosion resistance com-
pared with gray iron. In most soils, ductile iron pipe requires no corrosion protection. When highly corrosive soil conditions
are encountered, ductile iron pipe can easily be protected with polyethylene encasement.

Pressure Class Pipe vs. Thickness Class Pipe
The AVV`VVA C150 and C151 standards were changed in 1991 to incorporate pressure class designations for ductfle iron pipe
in addition to the existing special thickness classes. This was done to have a pressure classification similar to other water works
products and meet the demand for pipe suitable for lower pressure applications. As a comparative reference, the following tables
group the nominal thickness of pressure and thickness classes as a function of increasing wall thickness for each pipe size.

Requirements for Field Cutting Ductile Iron Pipe
American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards require all pipe to be factory -gauged on the spigot end only. All ductile
iron pipe have a slight end -to -end taper due to the manufacturing process. The taper causes the pipe diameter to increase from
the spigot towards the bell end. The pipe outside diameter can exceed the maximum allowable spigot tolerance on other areas
of the pipe barrel. When a pipe is field -cut and the diameter at the cut location is above maximum, the spigot will not fit into
another pipe bell or fitting. This condition is more apparent with larger pipe sizes. Pipe sizes 14" and greater should not be cut
unless marked "FOR FIELD CUT". Pipe marked "FOR FIELD CUT" have been factory -gauged to within 24" of the bell and
can be safely cut. All other pipe �hould be measured at the cut location to ensure proper diameter prior to cutting. This can be
accomplished with a diameter tape or by sliding an Mj gland to the cut location.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should any pipe be cut within 24" of the face of the bell end (including "FOR FIELD
CUT" pipe).

The TYTON JOINT* and FASTITE JOINT* designs incorporate a single rubber sealing gasket assuring a tight, perma-
nent sea]. The "push -on" typejoint is easy to assemble and fast to install. The push -on design eliminates the need for glands
and fasteners. The rubber gasket fits inside the contour of the bell socket, which seats the gasket. The plain -end (sprgot) of
each pipe is beveled to further ease assembly.

Push -On Joint Assembly
Thoroughly remove all traces of foreign material from
the gasket groove and bell socket. Foreign material
under the gasket may cause a leak. Make a small loop
In the gasket and insert In socket. For pipe sizes larger
than 20". it may be necessary to make 2 loops in the
gasket (6 and 12 ci�clock). Assure that the gasket faces
the correct direction and is properly seated. Note: in
cold weather, gaskets should be warmed to facilitate
installation.
3. Make sure the plain -end Is beveled per Griffln Pipe rec-
ommendations. Square or sharp edges may damage or
roll the gasket causing a leak. The plain -end should be in
reasonably straight alignment and carefully guided Into
the socket. After contacting the gasket. the joint Is com-
pleted by pushing the pipe until fully seated in the sock-
et. The spigot stripes are used for reference to Indicate
proper assembly.
Apply pipe lubricant to the exposed surface of gasket
and the plain -end of the pipe. Do not apply lubricant
to the bell socket or the surface of the gasket in contact
with the bell socket. Make sure the plain -end does not
contact the ground to avoid having dirt adhere to the
lubricant. Lubricant should extend up to the spigot
stripes on the plain -end.
Small pipe can be pushed into the bell with a long bar.
Larger pipe requires additional force such as a jack,
come -along or backhoe. When using a backhoe the
pipe can be swung into position while fastened to the
backhoe bucket with a sling. The pipe can then be
pulled/pushed Into the socket while attached to the
sling. Alternately, the sling can be removed after posi-
tioning the pipe and the backhoe bucket can be used to
push on the bell face for proper insertion. Care should
be taken not to damage the bell when using this
method.
