I also suggested the city consider contracting out it's servicing of city building fire alarms as it does with annual certs of fire sprinkler systems. As you can see by the forwarded message here is just another reason to contract this service out. Perfect timing. ----- Original Message ----- From: Smith, Mike Sent: Wednesday, March 01, 2006 6:18 AM To: Miller, Noel Subject: FW: Station 17 fire alarm system OOS Noel, Another reason to have contracted service on our fire alarms in city buildings is listed below. Our city doesn't have the personnel to handle things such as this when we are already short staffed. ----- Original Message ----- From: Petrella, Marc Sent: Tuesday, February 28, 2006 4:45 PM To: Fire Dept Group Subject: Station 17 fire alarm system OOS The fire alarm at-17 is down due to a ground fault. The panel shows "Trouble." Tom King is off this week. Gene was notified but was not able to respond as he was involved in a critical installation of a water pump at 5 Corners. He stated that he would call the alarm company, putting the system in test mode and come Wednesday morning to work on it. Westfall. John From: Smith, Mike Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2000 7:09 AM To: Police Staff; Fire Officers (no Subject: Generator at Fire Station 17 and the Public Safety Building Last week we did an acceptance test on the emergency generator and it functioned as it should. We found some problems when normal power was restored, particularly with the heating in the Public Safety Building. These problems have been resolved and all in the nick of time since the power was out most of last Friday. Here are some things to expect when the power goes out: 1 ) When PUD power is lost there is about a 10 second delay until the generator kicks on. 2) Since none of our PC's are on battery back-up you will usually loose whatever you are working on. 3) When the generator gets going, all systems will function normally. 4) When PUD power is restored, the generator will still power the buildings for about 15 minutes. Typically when normal power is restored for this long it won't go out again. 5) When the change from generator to PUD power occurs, everything shuts off for about 5 seconds and power is restored. Again if you are working on your computer you will probably loose your work. The generator will run for 10 more minutes in a cool down phase. 6) The court is not tied in to the emergency power. It will remain dark until PUD power, is back on. 7) The Fire Alarm will function normally since it is on battery back-up and the change over to generator power is such a short period of time. That's it. Any questions, call me or Gene the city's electrician. i 2 —( tp (P T-t- A-v V. 3TAT..
