ADB-97-41 REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF A new sign for the
EDMONDS BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

B. Site Location: 310 6th Avenue North
C. Introduction: In 1995 the ADB approved a major remodel and paint color change for the
Edmonds Boys & Girls Club. In the remodeling of the building the original sign was removed.
The Boys & Girls Club is proposing a new sign which is more consistent with the new color
and design theme of the building.
The property is owned by the Edmonds School District, and is zoned Public Use. The code
does not give any specific requirements for sign size or area for the Public Use zone, only that
all signs are subiect to ADB approval, and that signs shall be kept to a minimum size which is
compatible with the surrounding neighborhood and uses, while providing adequate visibility.
D. Staff Analysis:
I . Material: The applicant is proposing a painted wood sign
2. Lighting: No lighting is proposed.
3. Colors: The applicant is proposing white for the body of the sign with green
letter to match the green trim found on the building. The sign will also have yellow
and red trim to match the building colors.
4. Sign Area and Sign Height For Canopy Signs:

Sign Height 18.5 feet
E. Compliance with Findings
In order for the application to be approved, the Board must find that the application is in
compliance with the following criteria:
A. That the proposal is consistent with the.comprehensive plan and other adopted city
policies.

C. That the proposal as approved or conditionally approved satisfies the criteria and

ECDC section 20.60, sign code..
D. That the proposed sign is the minimum size which is compatible. with the surrounding
neighborhood and uses, while providing adequate visibility.
F. Recommended findings: The proposal appears to be in compliance with the required
findings for approval. Therefore Staff recommends the board make the following findings:
A. The proposal is found to be consistent with the comprehensive plan and other adopted
,city policies.
