Dear Mr. Wilson:
The following reiterates fire department concerns regarding the Edmonds Center Building at 5th Av.
S. and Howell Street per our phone discussion today:
The fire department has received a copy of your sprinkler system test from Fire One. There is a
problem identified for the outside (dry pipe) portions of your sprinkler system. The exterior sprinkler
heads have become corroded over the years due to the wet air.
I have a concern regarding the proper performance of these sprinkler heads in a fire emergency.
The fire department asks that you contact Fire One, Inc (206) 575-0311 or your preferred sprinkler
service company to have these heads replaced. Recommended replacement is with a listed
corrosion -resistant sprinkler head of equivalent rating. There are 13 heads under the overhang at
Petosa's and eight more in the south loading area. Three heads on the west side (407 Howell) have
been painted and require replacement also. This totals 24 sprinkler heads.
All modifications and changes to your fire sprinkler system require fire department review and
perhaps a permit from our Building Department depending upon the scope of work. All work shall
be performed by a State -licensed Fire Sprinkler Contractor by state law. Licensed plumbers are
not approved for work on fire -suppression piping unless they also hold a fire -sprinkler license.
Thank you for notice of system shut -down. The fire department asks that you contact us prior to
and following any work performed which causes system impairment. I recommend that your
insurance carrier be notified as well.
