Dear Mr. Caraker:
SUBJECT: SIDEWALK DAMAGE
Thank you for your letter dated August 4, 1982, regarding
sidewalk damage in front of your property located at 418 2nd
Avenue North.
My investigation of this and checking the fire hydrant
records indicates that the hydrant was repaire'd'-last, ' year.
Subsequently, the possibility exist,,s that the damage may have
occurred then, and not necessarily from the large amount of drain/
ground water from yours and adjacent properties into the street.
Repairs to the sidewalks shall be made at this time, by the
City's expense. It should be stated that our Water Division main-
tenance crews are skilled, State certified and highly capable of
hydrant repairs. Proper procedures for installation are strictly
followed, including adequate drainage.
It is our policy not to throttle a hydrant with the operator
nut. Partial flow should be obtained by control of the foot valve.
This would allow only a minimal amount of water from the drain into
the gravel drain area.
Again, thank you Mr. Caraker for your letter and attachments.
Repairs are being scheduled and this should be resolved soon.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please
contact me.
Sincerely,
BOBBY R. MILLS
