FROM: Leif R—Larson
City Engineer
SUBJECT: Marquee for 519 Main Street
Bock's Men Shop
Forwarded herewith is a Street Use Permit request from Bock's
Men Shop for a marquee over the sidewalk on Main Street. The Building
Department will require the structural details'of the marquee which will
be subject to review and approval of the Building official. The Building
Official and City Engineer recommend approval for the Street Use Permit
for the marquee.
In connection with the application, the request haH been made for
allowing tiling in the sidewalk area adjacent to the Men's Shop. If this
exception to the standard sidewalk is permitted, it should be on tile basis
that the store owner would accept 100% maintenance responsibility and full
insurance liability. However, I recommend that approval of the special
treatment of the sidewitlk area be field in abeyance until the sidewalk standards
for the downtown area have been evaluated from the standpoints of uniformity
of sidewalk treatments, aesthetics and safety.
