00885June 22, 1978 tor MEMO TO:. John Comm nityuDevelopmentcDepartment FROM: Leif R. Larson Director of Public Works SUBJECT: SUITABILITY OF SOILS FOR PRD-2-78 PARKSIDE WEST In regards to the concern as elng Con theirsheari g sion bofrs over the soils condition expressed i May 24th, we have reviewed the soils reports ep ets& Associateared s in Reid, Middleton in January, 1975, Au ust, 1977. We have also made a review independent of these reports on other sources of information. The soil in .this area is grouped into the Soil Conservation Service.designation as Alderwood type. This soil is charac- terized by a gravel and loam covering approximately -three feet in depth underlaid by hardpan. For the purposes of constructing roads, blelitTherenissnogle- family dwellings, the soil is most suita e which would be evidence of other soils of a more severe typ susceptible to sliding or movement. that The encounteredaintthe vicinity site is of a different character than all water entering the of the wharf. With respect to drainage, to the hardpf laythisesitedishen runs being coveredrwi ly soil percolates th Since only a small portion o surfaces detracting from the soils able to absorb water, we find that the remainder of the site can adequately absorb the displaced water. We therefore conclude th proposed development. Please at thialso lbesadvised ite is sthat ble for e the soils is - will be further examined at fromthe theobserved patternime of construction s dThis cern any unusual variations is a normal routine in any development as the work progresses.
