SUBJECT: CRUSHED LIMESTONE AS DRIVEWAY AND PARKING
AREA SURFACING
The Eng.ineeririg Division has made a study regarding.the possible,
}{
use of crushed limestone as a surfacing for driveway.and parking
area. In conversations with the County Engineer for -San Juan
County, where this material has been used for the past two years,
{`
'
the following information has been compiled:
1. Color retention - the material retains its initial
light gray color; the rain seems to wash surface dirt
t.
from the material.
2.. Material Movement - The material does continue to travel
and would, in the.opinion of the San Juan County Engineer,
reach adjacent areas and catch basins.
3. Dust -Does not seem -to be a problem; the dust forms
somewhat of a cement when wetted.
4. Upkeep - Potholes have occurred on travelled roadways; no
maintenance has occurred with the driveways.
5. Drainage.- Because the fines form a cement, the surface
would become nearly impermeable.
